The Embraer-135 business jet crashed in the Tver region on the evening of August 23. On August 27, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation confirmed deaths of all ten people on board, including the head of the Wagner Group Yevgeny Prigoahin and the military commander of the PMC Dmitry Utkin.
On the day if the incident, the Federal Air Transport Agency published the list of seven passengers and three crew members who were supposed to be on board. In four days, all the victims were officially identified. The Investigative Committee completed molecular genetic examinations and declared that their results correspond to the flight list.
The list of passengers of the crashed aircraft included:
- Yevgeny Prigozhin — founder of PMC “Wagner”;
- Dmitry Utkin — commander of the PMC;
- Sergey Propustin — reportedly head of the Prigozhin’s bodyguards;
- Yevgeny Makaryan — who was reportedly known to be a PMC fighter;
- Alexander Totmin — according to the Peacemaker, participated in military operations in Sudan;
- Valery Chekalov — reportedly head of Logistics Service of Prigozhin, he was the CEO of Neva CJSC, which was the sole known founder of Euro Policy firm associated with Prigozhin; according to the reports, the latter agreed with the Syrian government to liberate from militants and protect the country’s oil and gas fields in 2016, and in return received contracts for the extraction of a quarter of the hydrocarbons obtained from them.

Three crew members included: Crew Chief Alexey Levin, pilot Rustam Karimov and flight attendant Kristina Raspopova.
The Investigative Committee launched a criminal case under Article 263 of the Criminal Code (violation of traffic safety rules and operation of air transport). The investigation is reportedly considering different versions of the crash.
Among them, the reason of the crash could be an explosive device hidden in the landing gear compartment.
According to preliminary data, explosion occurred in the sky near the landing gear. As a result, the wing was torn off and hit the stabilizer. All those on board instantly lost consciousness, so the pilots could not report an emergency. It was not possible to save the aircraft without a wing and stabilizer. The tail section of the aircraft fell five kilometers from the fuselage which confirms this version as possible.
The investigation is ongoing. However, the West has already laid the blame on the Russian president.
The Kremlin, commented on the Western version of Putin’s involvement in the crash anf that it was a murder. Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that “all this is a lie.”
“Now, naturally, there is a lot of speculation around this plane crash, around the tragic death of the plane’s passengers, including Yevgeny Prigozhin,” presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. He urged to wait for the results of the investigation.
Indeed, the Kremlin would not shot down an aircraft on its own territory which resulted in a public scandal and could threaten the public trust. Moreover, the leadership of the Wagner PMC had no conflict with the President and the PMC continues to serve the Russian interest. There is no motive for such a harsh assassination. The incident is likely a result of any personal disagreements. The involvement of foreign parties should not be excluded.

i think people in general are trying to make sense of this. it is better to view it objectively. putin said mutineers would be punished, they were punished. even enemies of prigozhin admired his plain speaking and willingness to muck in, a unique character in an otherwise bleak conflict.

i could imagine at least 4 scenarios , and always the fifth: we simply know too little to make an opinion. besides the possibility with the oligarchs maybe even with stronger motives: enemies / opponents of wagner , which try to prevent their activities in africa. they are just about to defend niger. and other places worldwide. it was very efficient war party everywhere in the past. all speculation of course , for me though the most plausible.
strongly disapprove of the kgb informed manner of managing this conflict. strelkov is still imprisoned, but what for? not allowing room for patriotic dissent means eschewing opportunities for reform and creates weaknesses.
@fat cat all this, provided that putin was behind this terror. i doubt prigozhin was a patriot. and strelkov case is different from prigozhin. patriotic dissent is ok , however it is war time and such actions like blackmail attempts or mutinies cannot be tolerated. it would be rather weakness to give in into the blackmail.
