The Armed Forces of Ukraine shot down a Russian Ka-52 helicopter in the Ugledar region. Thea attack was carried out with MANPADS.
The helicopter performed fire support for the units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and the People’s Militia of the DPR. Before it was shot by two anti-aircraft missiles, the helicopter reportedly hit two fortified positions of Ukrainian forces. The pilot and the navigation officer made emergency landing and were evacuated by Russian forces from the area.
On August 14, the advancing units reportedly managed to break through the Ukrainian defense and advance in the region.
After the Russian Ka-52 Alligator helicopters proved their effectiveness during the military operations in Syria, the Russian military has been relaying on them to provide its troops in Ukraine with close air support.
“The pilot and the navigation officer made emergency landing and were evacuated by Russian forces from the area.” So, nobody died. This is the most important thing. And they now have learned from their mistakes. The show must go on.
What mistakes? War is dangerous. There will be loses. The good part is that the trained aircrew is okay and will be back.
Nobody died? Maybe, maybe not, considering: “the helicopter reportedly hit two fortified positions of Ukrainian forces”. Great job boys, for pulling out the comrades to safety!
And it wasn’t shot down if they were able to make an emergency landing. I understand that the ukrops need virtual victories on twitter, but SF should be more pragmatic. In a lot of cases, Russian military hardware has shown that it can withstand direct impact from missiles and whatnot. There was the video of the T-72 that took three hits from Javelins and continued to march. And even a lot of cases where Ka-52 and even Su-25 have been hit and able to survive, landing without exploding. Meanwhile the two fortified ukronazi positions haven’t been able to withstand the bombing.
Russia should use attack jet aircraft for some of these operation.
No Russia should use more Iranian heavy duty drones that can carry the same missiles as the helicopters, together with the helicopters or drones alone, such drones are a class of drones Russia has not been concentrating on. Drones can also do much more dangerous missions including suicide missions when needed.
This is a great idea and something that the Russians have ridiculed for years, only to find themselves years behind other countries.
It looks like they have just bought a batch of 1000 Shahed-129 and Shahed-121. The second one is good for recon, while the first is a beast capable of staying in the air for 24 hours, search and fire at targets with missiles.
Jets are tricky. They are fast, they cost, the missiles cost. Helos are a godsend against infantry and this is the reason why everyone in the world uses them. The problem is that the ukrops are dispersed into small units on a vast territory, hiding behind fortifications. Using jets would be an incredible waste and there is always a possibility that a jet con be shoot down.
Great, If the operators didn’t die, that’s all that matters. I am sure they just want to recover, see their families and request for another vehicle to continue with war with new experience.
another ukropo failure—miss Sawyer traumatized—natasha importing popcorn
Hopefully the chopper is recoverable also, they’ve proven to be very resilient aircraft.
Heroes… The bird itself did it’s job (protecting crew) and performed it’s mission. No wars are won without some materiel losses.
Allied forces break through Ukraine’s defense and advance toward Ugledar — DPR official Forces of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) backed by the Russian army have broken through Ukraine’s defenses and advance toward Ugledar, DPR’s Deputy Minister of Information Daniil Bezsonov said on Sunday.
“Soldiers of the DPR army’s Shakhterskaya division backed by Russian forces have broken through the Ukrainian army’s defenses and advanced considerably toward Ugledar. The Ukrainian army sustained serious losses in manpower and weapons,” he wrote on his Telegram channel.
DPR’s head, Denis Pushilin, said on July 13 that the DPR’s forces are advancing in four directions, including toward Ugledar.
The main pilots are alive, but we still slap a lot of helicopters
Jesus, no chaffs and flairs and using unguided rockets from the 30 mil. $ machine!!?? Someone in Russian military is very stupid. Ka-52, Mi-28/24/35 must use ATGMs only!!! Unguided rockets are for emergency only.
The Russian got defeated by the Afgans after NATO gave MANPAD’s to them. I think we will see the same thing happen in Ukraine.
So true the story is the same incredible
The U.S got defeated in Afganistan by villagers wearing sandals with AK’s.
Thats also true. The Afgans ware true warriors. In the current war , i do think history will repeat. The Ukrops get alot of high-tech weapons , i see the same end for this war just like the Soviet-Afgan war.
You should watch better then. The afghanis weren’t hoping to be liberated by the russians. The ukrainians are. 30.000 residents in the Zaporozye area have asked for russians passports already.
You people always think in videogames terms. What you don’t understand is that a country is its people and not its government and murican delivered fancy toys.
Ya knows, the US lost 5000 copters in Vietnam, the close ground support pilots understand the risks. The survivability of this model was impressive.
the shark ate many hohols…helicopter can be rebuilt
I read a different story about Russian copter destroying two ukrotanks and killing 15 servicemen. https://military.pravda.ru/news/1735770-vertolet/
where was his point to hit the thread after the firts missile was fire? the usage of ejelicopers alone when no air supremacy has been got is a negligence.
At least the helo was armoured enough to allow the crew to survive.
Why would they send in one helicopter ? They should operate in pairs as a minimum and three or four so they can cover each other. This is unheard of in helicopter warfare.
Hit by two missiles and still managed to land impressive 🇷🇺 🇷🇺
