The Russian military continues to hunt down Ukrainian artillery means with Lancet loitering munitions with much success.
On February 7 and 10, Russian sources shared videos documenting three recent Lancet strikes that targeted a Soviet-made 2S1 Gvozdika self-propelled 122 mm howitzer, a Soviet-made 2S19 Msta self-propelled 152 mm howitzer and an American-made M777 towed 155 mm howitzers of Kiev forces in the special military operation zone.
The Lancet was developed by the ZALA Aero Group, a subsidiary of Russia’s defense giant Kalashnikov. The company produces two versions of the loitering munition, the Izdeliye-52 with an endurance of 40 minutes and a three-kilogram warhead and the larger Izdeliye-51 that has an endurance of an hour and is armed with a warhead weighting five kilograms.
Both the Izdeliye-52 and 51 are equipped with an electro-optical system that can detect, track and lock on static and moving targets.
Despite receiving many air defense and electronic warfare systems from their Western allies, Kiev forces are still struggling to counter the Lancet. The loitering munition is hard to intercept due to their small radar cross-section and minimal infrared signature.
In the last few months, the Russian military intensified the use of the Lancet and other types of loitering munitions. As a result, Kiev forces sustained heavy human and material losses.
Firs and second was good hits, third was a miss. M777 was missed with 8 meters distance and almost sure it was remain intact.
I agree. Though the crew would have abandoned the location and there is a possibility of a secondary strike on its way as the uav that is watching that area would follow it. There is also the chance they will attack when in transit. The gun would have also suffered some minor damage as a result of that explosion. Nothing that would put it put of commission though.
That first one 100% knocked it out, there was fire and smoke billowing up from inside the vehicle.
The charge on those drones is enough to knock out a howitzer, maybe it could be repaired but not in field.
