Russia’s advanced Lancet loitering munitions have been inflicting some heavy losses on the Armed Force of Ukraine (AFU).
On October 20, the Russian Ministry of Defense released footage documenting a series of recent strikes with Lancet loitering munitions that targeted equipment of the AFU across the frontline.
The strikes destroyed a Msta-B 152 mm towed howitzer, a Ural-4320 military truck, a 36D6 long-range surveillance and missile control radar, a P-18 long-range VHF radar, a T-64BV battle tank and what appears to be an SUV of Ukrainian special forces.
The Lancet, which was developed by the ZALA Aero Group, is equipped with an elector-optical system that allows it to detect, track and lock on static and moving targets.
The last wave of strikes were apparently carried out with an improves version of the Lancet-3 that features a more aerodynamic design with extended X-shaped wings. This version has an endurance of a hour and is armed with a warhead weighting five kilograms.
The Lancet can be armed with a high-explosive fragmentation or thermobaric warhead for use against manpower, or with a high-explosive anti-tank warhead for use against armored vehicles and fortified positions.
The Russian military expanded the use of the Lancet and other types of loitering munitions like the Geranium-1 and 2, which are thought to be copies of Iran’s Shahed-131 and 136, in the last few weeks. This confirms that these systems are now being mass produced in Russia.
Putin is just trying to buy himself time by using the Iranian drones to launch terrorist attacks across Ukraine. It won’t work because the Russian army is too pathetic to do anything. They’re being kicked out of Kherson and Crimea will be next.

Indeed, “Switchblade” series is well known and could take much damage, if not strong AAD and jamming systems. This is like “Bayraktars” — good enough against opponents with weak AAD, have moderate success when opponent has some modern AA units (like Libya or Syria), almost useless against multi-layer defense.
