On the morning of February 26, a military airfield located on the outskirts of the capital of Belarus reportedly came under attack. This military facility hosted Russian military aircraft.
According to some Belarusian news sources, at least two explosions thundered on the territory of the military airfield in the village of Machulishchi. Some sources claimed that three explosions were heard in the area. One of them thundered at night and two others were reportedly heard in the morning.
The preliminary reports claimed that a snowplow and an aircraft were damaged as a result of the attack. Roads leading to the airfield were blocked. Ambulance officers and officers of the investigative committee were reportedly sent to the area of the incident.
Some local sources spread information that the attack was allegedly carried out by some Belarusian saboteurs who are members of the local radical opposition groups. Drone control consoles were reportedly found near the airfield.
The reports about the attack are yet to be officially confirmed by Belarusian or Russian military authorities.
The reports were supported by the following photo allegedly showing the smoke ober the military airfield. However, it has nothing to do with Belarus and was already circulating online before the attack.

The information was first shared by the media sources belonging to supporters of Belarusian opposition sponsored by Poland and were widely shared by the Ukrainian media.
In their turn, some Russian military reporters confirmed the attack, citing their own sources in Belarus, claiming that any any damage is yet to be confirmed.
The Belarusian newspaper Nasha Niva reported that the target was a Russian A-50U aircraft. Some Ukrainian sources claimed that the aircraft suffered some “average damage”.
A long-range radar detection and control aircraft (AWACS) A-50U of the Russian Aerospace Forces “Sergey Atayants” arrived on the Machulishchi airfield in mid-December, 2022. Earlier, it was engaged in the reconnaissance and monitoring of the activity of the Ukrainian army during the battles in the Kiev region.
Three Russian MiG-31K fighters with Kinzhal hypersonic systems are also reportedly stationed at the Machulishchi airfield.
Reports about any damage to Russian aircraft are yet to be confirmed.
It is still not clear whether the attack took place and whether it was carried out by local saboteurs or Ukrainian forces. Ukraine has already carried out several attacks on Russian military airfields with its UAVs launched from the Ukrainian territory. Russian airfields near Ryazan, Kursk and in Engels near Saratov were hit in 2022. All the previous attacks were confirmed by the Russian military. LINK, LINK, LINK, LINK
On the same day, Ukrainian sources reported that Ukrainian forces allegedly launched an attack on the Belarusian territory. One of the members of the Ukrainian territorial defence units was reportedly killed in clashes on the border. The Border Committee of Belarus denied the reports and claimed that there were no incidents Belarusian border guards did not open fire.

Still amazed how Russia is handling the security around airfields. First at least have security, second use decoys that looks same as original plane for a fraction of cost. If you only had ONE decoy of the a-50 it would be a 50-50 chance of damage. Third, stretch tarp over some areas and hide plane underneath and have a rotating schedule not parking plane at same spot. This is common sense and images where given by West and Nato satellites.
Dont station these planes anywhere in range of the ukrainian forces. If they can hit it they will try. Try telling a rabid dog to not attack a child infront of it you will fail.

What difference does it really make who or what carried out suspected attack? What does matter is it is clearly another provocative act of Kiev to draw Belarus into the war. Remember when a missile landed in Poland? Remember the attack on the Kerch Strait bridge? NATO will allow anything if it has the potential for escalation.
