Russia’s 810th Guards Naval Infantry Brigade is reportedly training to shoot down Ukrainian drones using modified Soviet-era GShG-7.62 machine guns.
The training is reportedly being held in cooperation with the Gagaring Laboratory. Video footage and photos showing a part of the training were posted to social networks last June. More were shared on July 12. The GShG-7.62 gun used was equipped with an optical sight and mounted in the back of a pickup truck.

The GShG-7.62 is a four-barreled rotary machine gun. It is a hybrid weapon using both propellant gas and an electric drive to rotate the barrels, which is in contrast with most other rotary guns that are often exclusively powered via an electric drive. It was developed in the late 1960s for the Mi-24 attack helicopter together with heavier YakB 12.7mm machine gun, and is currently used in GUV-8700 gun pods that can be installed on Ka-29 naval helicopters.
The gun fires 7.62×54mmR cartridges with a rate of fire up to 6,000 rounds per minute. It has a Muzzle velocity of 820–850 meters per seconds and a maximum firing range of 1,000 meters.
The rate of fire and range of the GShG-7.62, which weights just 19 kg, makes it suitable for engaging smaller multirotor or fixed-wing suicide drones.
Last year, a more elaborate system based on the gun was spotted in the special military operation zone. The system featured an electro-optical sight.

Also last year, the system was used by the Black Sea Fleet to counter drone boats. The gun was installed on the beach, on speed boats and helicopters.
The extensive use of drones in the special military operation zone both sides have shown the need for diverse air defense means, from guns to anti-aircraft missiles and interceptor drones. Electronic warfare also plays a centric role in countering drones.
