Russian Military Bases, Additional Infrastructure To Remain In Syria After Defeat Of ISIS

Ministry of defence of the Russian Federation

The Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Valery Gerasimov announced on November 23 how the Russian military presence in Syria will be downsized. He made the announcement at the meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ministry of Defense officials.

According to the Chief of General Staff, two Russian military bases will stay in Syria: the Khmeimim air base and Tartus naval base. Russian Center for the Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in the Syrian Arab Republic will also continue operations. After the collapse of ISIS Russia will still be present in the region in order to sustain peace and stability, Gerasimov said.

“The Reconciliation Center, two military bases, and several outfits required to keep the current situation in check will stay,” he said.

In January of 2017 Russia and Syria signed agreements that would let Russia stay in Khmeimim for 49 years and increase the territory of the Tartus base. In late October, Kommersant reported that Russia might downsize its military presence in Syria due to imminent collapse of ISIS and government forces controlling 95% of the country’s territory.

Russia increased its presence in Syria in March of 2016 by deploying Mi-28N and Ka-52 helicopters in Syria. In September it deployed additional Su-24 and Su-34 jets at its air bases there, with MiG-31s being deployed in November. In December of the same year, a demining squad was deployed in order to demine Aleppo. Russia also steadily deployed the S-300 and S-400 missile defense systems in order to provide cover for its jets.

Lupus

Good news now the US does the same. Ruskies are true friends

dutchnational

Were they ever going to leave then?

Lupus

Not completely obviously

John Whitehot

no. They have always maintained that they’d stay in the two bases after the war, which is a positive thing to the region, as they are able to track Israeli operations and eventually launches of their ballistic missiles towards Iran or elsewhere.

Being able to track missiles early in their flights, if not as soon as they are launched, greatly improves the ability to defend from them and take proper countermeasures

javier

they were invited to stay you douche

Bob Trajkoski

Hopefully in body bags

TiredOfBsToo

The Russians really had no choice; what with the International Lawbreakers choosing to remain and with their continued support for training and equipping terrorists in the region.

Lupus

yup

Boris Kazlov

Another early “mission accomplished”. What about the Ziomurikan presence?

Solomon Krupacek

welcomed!

John Whitehot

another fake russian.

Solomon Krupacek

you are god

John Whitehot

thanks, you too.

Tudor Miron

If he is another than can you tell who (nik names) others are? Why do you say that he’s not Russian? Last name that he uses looks strange, I agree about that but I would not take it as a proof that he’s fake.

Solomon Krupacek

you are fake englishman

John Whitehot

it is my opinion that he ain’t a russian, based on some previous posts.

and again, you don’t believe people writes here using their real names?

Tudor Miron

Thanks for your reply. I asked because I assumed that you based your opinion on something more than just his above post. Kazlov sounds very strange – should be Kozlov but there are many unusual last names :). Sorry that I have to ask for clarifications some times – that because due to language barrier I’m not always sure that I get the real meaning and than I naturally want to get more precise understanding.

John Whitehot

np

Tudor Miron

Regarding names… I can’t possibly know. Some are. I’m using my real name and this is easy to proof. “and again”(c) it sounds like you already asked me about this issue. I’m sorry if I missed it and didn’t reply earlier.

Solomon Krupacek

and government forces controlling 95% of the country’s territory.

again this number. so, not putin was drunken. they really calculate syria = government held territory + isis territory west from euphrates. :(

This is re- assuring news that the obvious US strategy will be completely countered by the Russians establishing two strong long term bases in Syria. This puts the US right onto the back foot and makes their entire position not only illegal under International Law but increasingly untenable and unpopular with the Syrian populace. The US is a chess player that consistently makes the wrong moves and, moreover, due to its deeply flawed and utterly dishonest strategy will be defeated by the Russian Grandmasters. Patience will destroy the Gobalist Cabal’s overall battle plan for the Middle East and its enormous oil resources largely located in Iraq and Iran as Saudi Arabia’s reserves are now severely depleted.

Jens Holm

hahaha.. paranoia.

John Whitehot

more like schitzophrenia : )

Jens Holm

With only one leg :-)

Tudor Miron

Do you mean that Nigel’s post is schitzophrenic? Mind to elaborate?

John Whitehot

no, just a joke about folks with “multiple personalities”, a disorder that includes schizophrenia. notice the smile at the end, i meant no quarrel.

Tudor Miron

Thank you for your answer.

Nigel Maund

I have to say all your commentary marks you out as a US shill.

FlorianGeyer

The biggest weakness of the US chess play is that all the their pieces are used as disposable pawns by the American Grand Masters. :)

Russia, sell a set of S-400 defense systems to the actual Syrian people now. You sell it to Saudi Arabia, Turkey and others. Try selling it to the people who needs it most… your own allies! Sell the S-400 system to Syria, Lebanon, Yemen and Iran. You’ll make a lot of money, plus you will be counterbalancing against the enemies of humanity.

Barba_Papa

Syria and Yemen are broke and can’t afford anything. Israel would bomb any S-400 launchers the moment they get off the transport ships in Lebanon, and negotiations with Iran is like dueling with shadows. The Iranians only want the technology, can’t blame them for that, the Russians on the other hand also want to make some money. The last thing Russia wants is for them to sell a few S-400 units to Iran only for a local knock off to appear a year later.

Just because countries are allies doesn’t mean they are best friends forever. Only that they have shared interests. Nothing more, nothing less. A lesson that European countries should do well to relearn in their dealings with the US.

Vitex

That’ll complicate things for the US :)
