Russian Military Conducted Another Zircon Hypersonic Missile Test

Click to see the full-size image

The new Russian Zircon hypersonic missile is undergoing additional testing. On Sunday, another successful launch of the missile was carried out, this time from the Admiral Gorshkov frigate of the Northern Fleet, the Russian Defence Ministry said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated while attending the national naval day parade on Sunday that other vessels of the Russian Navy will soon receive the hypersonic weapon. Russia remains the only country to have successfully developed and tested a hypersonic weapon.

“Unique advantages and an increase in the combat capabilities of the fleet will be achieved through the widespread introduction of advanced technologies that have no analogues in the world, including hypersonic strike systems and unmanned underwater vehicles, to ensure the most effective means of defence,” Putin said.

In March, the commander of the Northern Fleet, Alexander Moiseev, said that the Northern Fleet submarines were planning to begin testing hypersonic weapons in the near future. In November last year, the military reported that one of the most modern ships of the Russian Navy, the frigate Admiral Gorshkov, was preparing to test a new missile.

On 2 December 2019, the President of the Russian Federation said that the strengthening of the capabilities of the Russian Navy in the coming years largely depends on the planned commissioning of frigates and submarines into the combat fleet, as well as the modification of existing vessels so that they can carry and launch the “Zircons”.

Modern Russian surface ships are equipped with a vertical launcher UKSK 3S14. As has been reported, the vertical launcher is capable of launching several types of Kalibr cruise missiles, as well as other missiles, in particular, the Zircon hypersonic missile. LINK

The Zircon will be able to reach speeds of up to Mach 9, nine times faster than the speed of sound. It will have an operational range of 1,000km, and is capable of hitting both water and land-based targets. The Defence Ministry said the Zircon is going to be placed on nuclear submarines and surface ships, but there are also plans to develop a ground-based version of the weapon.

Deputy Defence Minister Aleksey Krivoruchko has said that the missile is expected to enter service sometime in 2021 or 2022.

Russia apparently became the first nation to develop and deploy hypersonic weapons when the Avangard glide vehicle was introduced in December 2019.

Besides the Avangard and Zircon, the country’s ambitious hypersonic program also includes the air-launched Kinzhal (dagger) cruise missile. It too is undergoing tests at the moment, but it has already been shown to the public during Victory Day parades on Red Square. LINK

very nice all the best

After reading this article Pentagon has moved from “Aggressive” Track To Quickly Develop Offensive hyper sonic missile to the “Extremely Aggressive”Track And from “super fast tracking” of their hyper-sonic projects to the “super, super fast” speed of development ! In your face Russia !!!

Lone Ranger

Superduperdudlydoo…

HiaNd

you have talent for creating the names, Pentagon needs you urgently :)

Lone Ranger

Thanks :) Im not forsale.

JIMI JAMES

C’mon, free bonus extra stocks, free vaccines to try, great retirement renumeration, (if you make it) and a shelby gt/r mustang for transportation and a box of masks in the glovebox, you would still refuse?

Lone Ranger

Tempting….it is not ?

JIMI JAMES

We used to make some good stuff here, but now, what used to be save for a home turns out to be save for transportation, and anything extra gotta be the mansion, Not the time to buy, invest stocks maybe but theres a very narrow time frame, rather consolidate into weighted substance, than rely on air speculations as for tempting,it is the 10 speed variant, considered, but the shelby no,unless the bribe is evident yet not at expense of others lives,i could always try opel opc astra, but then again do not want to see poland or chechia get into fight over which?

Lone Ranger

Czech Republic has Skoda, part of the VW group, pretty good car. With VW tech…

I can’t tell which one is President Flump because they are both masked. Another job for ‘US Digital Truth Force’ to resolve that. World needs US super heroes, one never knows when aliens might attack.

Russia the only power and maybe China that actually has these weapons. The U.S can only dream of such weapons.

HiaNd

they do “dream” about those weapons but it is more like nightmarish kind of dream… too much stress, that’s why…

Lone Ranger

Good job Comrades. Deterrence is gold. CIA trolls will cry and rage :)

<>

It’s a new arms race, nothing to be happy about. Russia is preparing for a war, but they don’t see the real threat is China.

Lone Ranger

If you want peace prepare for war… How many countries did China invade and how many the U.S.? Who is having more than a 1000 sanctions against dozens of countries?

<>

China will invade other ASEAN countries, give them 5-10 more years in the current pace. People here think China is a friend of Russia, learn the history between the two countries. They share a common interests, but China will eventually try to reclaim its lost lands from Russia.

RichardD

Why would China invade anyone, which would be counter productive, when they’ve got the belt and road initiative that will gain them more than any invasion could?

<>

Then why are they trying to take over areas that don’t belong to them in the South China Sea? they probably think the EEZ in the sea only belongs to them.

Lone Ranger

The same reason why the U.S. has naval bases in Guam and Diego Garcia.

Wayne Nicholson

Do you think that might have something to do with all the bases the USA is building out there …. the THADD systems in Japan and SK and Aegis missile boats and carriers that the USA likes to sail past China’s coasts?

Yea they have disputes over fishing rights with their neighbours … we do to in Canada too …. especially with the USA and Spain …. however you don’t deploy anti-shipping missiles, military runways and air defences on islands to protect fishing boats … you do it to protect you nation from attack.

You also don’t see the Chinese installing missile bases and military bases in the Carribean … so it’s not like the Chinese are the aggressor here.

The real dispute …. and reason for China’s military buildup in the S. China sea is to counter US moves in the region. The story that it’s about fishing disputes and mineral wealth is a western distraction to the real reason

jade villaceran

fishing boats can used by usa to spy on those artificial islands, specially those neighbors who have us bases

Wayne Nicholson

Yea ….. and every nation on earth has been using fishing boats and merchant vessels for spying since we’ve been able to build boats so I don’t think this would be news to the Chinese.

RichardD

They’re trying to get the issues resolved with a minimum of conflict. China could completely step away from the south China sea and there would still be competing claims from 1/2 a dozen nations.

“The PRC had obtained a permit from the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission to build five observation posts for the conduction of ocean surveys, and one of the permitted observation posts was allowed to be located in the Spratly islands region.[26] The PRC chose to built its observation post on the Fiery Cross Reef, which was isolated from the other islands in the region and was not occupied by any state at the time. …

The occupation and/or control of most parts of the Spratly and Paracel islands has not changed significantly since the middle of 1990s.[29][circular reference] The PRC controls all of the features in the Paracels. In the Spratlys, Vietnam controls the greatest number (29) of features, while the Philippines has control of eight features, Malaysia five, the PRC five, and the Republic of China one. …

On 20 July 2011, the PRC, Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam agreed a set of preliminary guidelines on the implementation of the DOC (Declaration of Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea) which would help resolve disputes.[32] The agreement was described by the PRC’s assistant foreign minister, Liu Zhenmin, as “an important milestone document for cooperation among China and ASEAN countries”.[32] Some of the early drafts acknowledged aspects such as “marine environmental protection, scientific research, safety of navigation and communication, search and rescue and combating transnational crime”, although the issue of oil and natural gas drilling remains unresolved. “Following the spirit of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC), China and ASEAN countries actively advanced the consultations on the Code of Conduct (COC) in the South China Sea,”[33] with the forecast that the COC will be completed by 2021. …

China secures it’s maritime trade routes in South China Sea. If you will learn some history, you will find a lot of info how USA blocked supplies routes for Japan in WWII. Chinese are good students.

cechas vodobenikov

prekrasni—the US provoked the war w Japan—they retaliated by bombing Hawaii

FlorianGeyer

Exactly, and why would Russia want to invade NATO Europe when most of the inhabitants belong un a lunatic asylum?

RichardD

Russia has lunatics, maybe fewer per capita, and they don’t let them run the asylum.

FlorianGeyer

Russian lunatics are mostly in secure asylums, unlike the Western governments that adopted ‘Care in the Community’ and promptly sold the old asylums to housing developers about 35 years ago :) The large network of Isolation Hospitals were sold at about the same time.

RichardD

Good point.

Lone Ranger

Im aware of their past. But lets face it China is no match for Russia, and China knows that. Aside from that why would China try to take out a key ally? Would be a bit counterproductive. Why would China invade smaller nations, what is there to gain? Vietnam is also commie arent they? There is a higher chance of Turkey attacking Greece or France.

<>

China wants to take over Taiwan after HK, and other EEZ of Asean countries. It won’t happen.

Lone Ranger

Hong Kong was given back to them by the Brits in 1997 after almost a 200 year occupation after the second opium war if Im not mistaken. So they didnt invade it. Taiwan was also Chinese land, Chinese people still live there. U.S. got theur hands on it same as on Japan and South Korea, they are colonies. If they wanted they could take it anytime. According to the RAND think tank(best think tank in the U.S.), China could take Taiwan only suffering 30-40% losses why Taiwanese and U.S. forces would suffer 80-90%, in a non nuclear engagement.

<>

You are hypocritical. Taiwan is not a part of China same as the West Bank will go the the Palis, whether we like it or not even I accept it. If you say Taiwan and HK are under China, then the West Bank is Israeli, and Kosovo is Serbia.

Lone Ranger

Im not in favor of taking Taiwan. Its not worth the effort. HK is China tho. Thats a fact, even under International law. The difference is these places are ethnic Chinese. While the places you listed arent homogen.

cechas vodobenikov

it should be recognized that Hong Kong people are ethnically, linguistically distinct from Han Chinese—only 4 % of china speaks Toison/Cantonese….the vast majority of Chinese in anglophone nations—85-90% are Cantonese

Lone Ranger

I dont agree.

Anduin Lothar

KOSOVO IS SERBIA!

<>

Same as West Bank is Israel.

Wayne Nicholson

Pick up a book and read …. you seem like a decent guy …. I hate to see you embarrass yourself like this. Taiwan was part of China for thousands of years until 1949 and the only reason it isn’t today is because the USA protected the defeated forces of Chiang Kai-shek from the communists under Mao

Wayne Nicholson

Hong Kong is a repatriation of Chinese territory not any kind of invasion …. they’re just taking back what’s theirs. Hong Kong was ceded to the British after the first opium war.

Read about the opium wars …. we are fortunate that China is happy just to repatriate Hong Kong after what the British did to them and that they aren’t looking for revenge.

Taiwan was also a part of China until 1949 and they want to repatriate that as well.

So tell me what other countries is China threatening to “invade”. Show me one credible quote from a Chinese official stating that they want to take over any other country except that which was once theirs but was stolen from them.

When you’re done that look at Chinese history and see how many times it was invaded compared to how many times China invaded another country. There is no evidence anywhere that China plans to invade anything except what was once theirs or that they have a history of invading other countries except in the imaginations of US and British propaganda

FlorianGeyer

China ceded HongKong in 1841, and it was the second Convention of Peking that added some territory on the Chinese mainland to Hong Kong island, signed on 9 June 1898.

The ailing Qing Dynasty leased the New Territories to Britain for 99 years, starting 1 July 1898.

The lease expired in 1997.

cechas vodobenikov

Chiang kai she after being humiliated by Mao reduced the native Taiwanese to a 2nd class discriminated population….It is a matter of time until it reintegrated w China….very few nations recognized Taiwan as an independent nation

Wayne Nicholson

“China will invade other ASEAN countries, give them 5-10 more years in the current pace.”

Ooooh …. what else do you see in your crystal ball? got any stock tips? Why don’t you and me go to Vegas …. we’ll clean up.

cechas vodobenikov

sure durak—Russia has far more advanced nukes and more than 10,000 battlefield nukes than China, India, more lethal, accurate than anything the US has

Lone Ranger

Its only a race if both sides are head to head. Currently the U.S. is way behind.

<>

The U.S will sanction China soon, they already closed each others Consulates. Regarding Russia, the U.S is already developing hypersonic weapons and they will catch up with Russia in the next few years.

RichardD

The US has worked on hypersonics since WW2 and still isn’t close to having something like a hypersonic cruise missile that doesn’t have to leave the atmosphere to get up to speed.

And even if they do get one, their air defense is even further behind Russia.

Lone Ranger

Maybe, maybe not, in regard of catching up. The best U.S. could come up with is the AGM-183, which is a boost/glide configuration, not a real cruise missile. Maneuvering capebilities will be very limited if at all. They also dont have a naval version. In fact the main stand off weapon is still the Tomahawk and the Harpoon. A bit archaic compared to the Sunburn, P-700, P-800, Kalibr and the Zirkon.

As for China… Its a bit late arent they… U.S. owes them $2trillion, plus they have a trade deficit of $800billion. China delivers sensible electronics even to the Flop-35. I dont really understand what the U.S. is planning to do. They are too weak for WWIII. They cant win an economic war. And in a slow escalation and stand off China will simply grind them in on the South China Sea. Can U.S. companies take over Chinese production at similar prices? No they cant. Its a lose lose situation. History is repeating itself. U.S. plays the role of the Soviet Union in 1990. And China plays the role of the U.S…

HiaNd

“They are too weak for WWIII.” They are even too weak for WWl.

Nice comment BTW.

Lone Ranger

??

Wayne Nicholson

If the USA sanctions China US corporations and investors stand to lose $trillions in investment and partnerships with China.

So you think the USA would destroy their supply chains for their own manufacturers and stop the flow of cheap consumer goods at a time when the USA is going through the worst economic crisis in capitalist history?

On top of Americans losing their jobs and their houses those that still have jobs won’t be able to get cars, appliances, computers, phones, TV’s computer games …… yea that would be a REAL smart move.

<>

They would get all of those from other countries in Asia, China is not the only producer of goods.

Wayne Nicholson

The Chinese supply chains took decades to set up. Moving a factory to another country doesn’t happen overnight … factories have to be designed and built and that takes expertise. It’s not just the factories either …. Infrastructure like water sewage and electrical grids have to be in place before construction can begin and you need engineers and tradesmen capable of setting up modern robotic assembly lines and clean rooms.

I know for a fact that even in Canada some regions of the country don’t have the capabilities or infrastructure to support modern manufacturing because they don’t have the support infrastructure and jobbing contractors. vast regions of the USA that used to support manufacturing aren’t able to either because those men and businesses are long gone.

It’s one thing for Chinese companies with expertise to move one of their operations to a country like Vietnam but to sanction and take the work away from those companies and just hand it over to say Vietnam is going to be expensive, time consuming and socially disruptive for Americans …. especially during times of high unemployment and depression.

jade villaceran

iron zion brain is shallow, he cant comprehend what you are explaining to him, all he know is how great usa and israel no more no less

FlorianGeyer

But surely all the US needs to do is mobilise the Blacks to work on the rebuilt traditional and high tech production lines and to Make America Great Again.

The superior US education system has produced a Black labour pool that is unique in the civilised world :)

Wayne Nicholson

I was a training coordinator for a construction union after I hung up my tool belt and retired from contracting …. I’m fully retired now but still teach a few courses today. I’m from Canada but I spent a couple of months a year working in the USA with other trainers and educators.

One of the functions I attended was a workshop on recruiting apprentices …. I was absolutely appalled at their standards and expectations. We require a high school education …. they suggest recruiting out of prison or remedial high school programs. We expect college level math and literacy …. they expect the apprentice to breath on command.

They (the US side of the union) also had a textbook they wanted us to sell to high school shop programs ….. I would be embarrassed to give it to a fourth grader.

It’s no secret that the tradesmen who built America were educated in Europe. With de-industrialization they lost the skilled machinists, millwrights and tool makers they’ll need to build and maintain factories. There are lots of highly skilled people in the USA however not enough, not the right skills and not in the right places.

The biggest problem they have is they defunded public education. There’s no system of trades training or industrial arts and schools don’t have the money or the skilled teachers to re-start a program. Apprenticeships in the USA are private so there is no standardization of training and meaningless … because there is no standardization of training.

cechas vodobenikov

false—the US spends more per capita than all nations on their students—US teachers derive from the most incompetent classes—-as Postman ,Hofstadter, Jacoby, etcdemonstrated US schools r designed to socialize, not to educate

FlorianGeyer

It’s pretty much the same in the UK.

A master tradesman needs the math and literacy skills combined with an adaptable and logical mind to think things through.

Such people tended to come from the ‘lower classes’ and these days they have more varied opportunities as their knowledge retention skills are becoming a rarity.

There is also the common sense that comes with being allowed to play as a child in risky situations, such as climbing trees, that these days is frowned upon by nanny states.

The feckless today cannot even become Skilled Labourers of any meaningful worth because they take the benefits or crime options.

Wayne Nicholson

Russia has been living with their neighbour China for a thousand years …. they know exactly what kind of threat China is and vice versa.

The Anglo – American empire has been waging war on Russia since the Soviets deposed his blood relative Nicholas and reneged on their war debt in 1917. Churchill wanted to use chemical weapons against the Bolsheviks during the revolution.

During WW2 they repeatedly reneged on starting a second front in Europe in hopes that the USSR would be bled white and deposed by the nazi’s.

In 1948 they planned an attack on the USSR with nuclear weapons however they weren’t able to produce enough bombs to do so when Stalin got his own bomb putting an end to that plan.

The forced the USSR into a cold war arms race which kept them from rebuilding their nation after WW2 and ultimately led to the USSR’s collapse.

After pillaging post collapse Russia in the 1990’s they reneged on an agreement not to allow ex Warsaw pact states into NATO and have formented revolution along their borders and moved nuclear capable AEGIS missile launchers into Poland and Romania which gives Moscow and St. Petersburg 10 minutes to determine if they are at nuclear war or not and respond with a counter strike down from 30 minutes during the cold war.

And you think the Chinese are the threat to Moscow? …. they are under the same pressure from the Anglo-Americans.

ruca

Don’t expect the Zion_Moron to understand a word of what you wrote. He prefers disinformation and outright lies to fact.

cechas vodobenikov

there r many theories that regard the disintegration of the USSR—the most credible regard the vast cultural linguistic religious differences within the USSR…chinese and Russians both lived together under the Mongol empire—huge populations of Muslims, Buddhist mongols, etc in Russia and China “in our acts and development we r Asian; in our arrogance we r European”. A Chekhov

RichardD

The S-200 anti aircraft missile is reportedly a Mach 8 missile in some versions. The Zircon is a maneuvering cruise missile that can fly long distances at hypersonic speeds close to the ground. That’s what makes it different. Other hypersonics like ICBMs have to leave and return to the atmosphere to achieve mach 15 plus speeds.

Wizzy

Can’t wait to see a clash of US and Russian forces in any theater – Syria, Libya, Ukraine anywhere. The Americans can’t fight any peer, that’s a proven fact, they like to make movies about beating on weaklings and try to win the Vietnam war through Rambo. The Israelis seem to be better, but only cuz they are stupid, so stupid that they could even start a war with Russia.

<>

Calling us supid is under-estimating us, we are patriots and we will fight any enemy that threatens us. You think Iran will ever get a nuclear bomb? not as long as we exist.

JIMI JAMES

They havn’t even got the nerve to take on the 90 year old,let alone its anfitas at that? Don’t insult intellect, patriots are too busy buying chinese produce from wallmart,no? Can’t blame them either, considering cia/bilderbergs hyperinflated dead end warmonging!

Wayne Nicholson

Israelis are anything but stupid. You made the USA your combination attack dog / sugar daddy which is pretty nifty. I wish I could train my dog so well let alone get her to give me money and weapons.
