The Russian military continues to use 2K25 Krasnopol precision-guided artillery rounds to target the positions and equipment of Ukrainian forces.
On March 31, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that a Krasnopol round was used to destroyed a stronghold of Ukrainian nationalists.
“A stronghold of Ukrainian nationalists at a key road junction was wiped out by a smart artillery shell Krasnopol, guided to target by an unmanned aerial vehicle,” the Defense Ministry said in a statement.
The ministry released footage of the pinpoint artillery strike, without revealing the exact location of the targeted stronghold.
On the same day, a Krasnopol round was reportedly used to destroy a multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) that was hidden by Ukrainian nationalists in the Azovstal factory in Mariupol. The strike was also coordinated by a drone.
The Russian military has been using Krasnopol rounds to target high-value equipment, such as air-defense systems, and fortified positions of Ukrainian forces since the beginning of its special operation in Ukraine more than a month ago.
The Krasnopol can be fired by most 152 mm artillery guns. The artillery round, which is guided by semi-active laser, has a range of 20 to 30 kilometers. The Russian military often uses drones equipped with laser designators to illuminate targets for the round.
According to the most recent briefing by the Russian MoD, 124 warplanes, 77 helicopters, 323 drones, 1,767 tanks and other armored combat vehicles, 186 MLRS, 741 field artillery and mortars, as well as 1,657 units of special military vehicles of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been destroyed since the beginning of the Russian special military operation.
