The gigantic Russian train was spotted in the Donbass. It consists of more than two thousand wagons and has a length of about 30 kilometers. The echelon was already called the Russian “tsar train”.
The train start near the railway station in the village of Elenovka and ends on the outskirts of the town of Volnovakha. Its construction reportedly began in July 2023.

This military invention is likely aimed to reinforce Russian defense lines in the Donbass in the case of Ukrainian breakthrough in the Ugledar direction. There is about 100,000 tons of steel, which covers a huge territory. Some wagons are reportedly additionally welded to the rails, which strengthens the overall line. The train can be equipped with firing points and wagons could be used to store various military equipment. The train can be loaded with a variety of weapons from machine guns to air defense systems.
Ukrainian military sources concluded that ”it is extremely difficult to damage, move or blow up a 30-kilometer mass of metal, and the movement of equipment through this line is impossible without breaking through the wide corridor”.
The wagons could have helped the Russian military buy time and slow down the Ukrainian offensive, if it had taken place.
The train was aimed to stop the Kiev’s counter offensive, which failed failed with heavy losses of the Ukrainian army. Such an obstacle could become a dangerous surprise for the Ukrainian troops. However, they never reached it. Now it is difficult to assess the usefulness of this defense line, because the Armed Forces of Ukraine are unlikely to launch any offensive operations, including in the Southern Donetsk direction in the near future.
