The Russian Military Police has deplyoed in the towns of Shehba and Afrin in northern Syria in order to set up military observation posts and to provide an additional security to the area, according to the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG).

“Following talks between the People’s Defense Units (YPG), Jaysh al-Thuwar and Russian forces, it has been decided to have Russian troops stationed in a few various locations in Shehba and Efrîn [Afrin] for military observation.

The mission of the Russian forces involved in military observation will be to provide security for Shehba and Efrîn [Afrin] together with YPG and Jaysh al-Thuwar fighters,” YPG General Command of Afrin said in a statement.

Further deployments of Russian Military Police units in the YPG-held area in northwestern Syria show the growing Russian influence in the  area.

Meanwhile, Kurdish militias in northeastern Syria remain under almost a direct influence of the US-led coalition.

tensions between Arab population and the Kurds maybe the reason…..Russians are a way of stopping a fire from starting….

These tensions have been growing for years and has increased in the past months higher than it was before in the previous years.

Tensions, yes. Not between arabs and kurds, but between Turkey and SDF.

This goes for Syrian Arabs in the region and there is no difference in North eastern Syria these tensions are here and why the US is going to Subdivide the Kurds and Arabs in the region, there plan not mine.

Tensions between Turkey and SDF have risen sharply because of Turkish agression and Erdogans bombastic claims about taking Afrin.

Russia has been talking for two months with SDF, trying to convince them to allow SAA in. On the one hand SDF felt confident they could hold out against the present deployments of TSK and the weak AAS forces, but the countryside and cities would be largely destroyed.

They accepted some Russian forces, not SAA. and Russia went for it.

Russian influence within Afrin, and indirectly Assad’s, will rise. Imo there is some likelyhood that Russia does not want Turkey any farther within Syria and has asked SDF to commit to help SAA once the assault on Idlib region will start. It has long been known that the JAT faction of the SDF, partly originating out of Idlib and claiming sleeper cells there, has proposed earlier taking on Idlib once fighting restarts there.
