The Russian Military Police have established a new base in the border town of Amuda in the northern al-Hasakah countryside, the Step News Agency reported on November 30.
The new base is located in a large building that has been reportedly used by the Kurdish Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) as a military academy. Locals published a photo showing the Russian flag over the building.
Step News’ reporter in northeast Syria said that the Russian Military Police are now working to establish another base in the border town of al-Darbasiyah, to the west of Amuda.

Several units of the Russian Military Police were deployed in northeast Syria last month to facilitate an agreement between the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Damascus government.
Later, Russia reached an agreement with Turkey on northeast Syria. As a part of the agreement, Kurdish forces should be withdrawn 30km away from the Turkish border, which explains why Russian forces are now establishing posts to monitor the area.
