Russian Military Receives Newest Air Defense Systems Tor-M2U

The battle tank force of Russia’s Eastern Military District has received new air defense systems Tor-M2U, the press service of the Eastern Military District reported.

The district chief of press service Alexander Gordeyev said that teams of air defense systems have already retrained at the training center of the city of Yeisk and then made missile launches at the gunnery range Kapustin Yar.

Earlier, the Ground Forces’ Air Defense Force chief Alexander Leonov had said that Russian army will receive two new air defense systems Tor-M2U until the end of the year.

The Tor-M2U system has a range of 12 kilometers and a maximum firing altitude of 6,000 meters. Its 12 ground-to-air missiles can hit targets flying at speeds up to 700 meters per second. The air defense system was created to protect important administrative, economic, and military facilities from strikes of antiradar and cruise missiles, remotely piloted aircraft, glide-bombs, airplanes and helicopters. Soon air defense systems Osa-AK will be replaced by Tor-M2U in Buryatia.
