The Russian military has registered over 530 violations of the ceasefire regime in the Idlib de-escalation zone since September 17, when the demilitarized agreement was reached with assistance from Turkey and Russia.
“Since the memorandum to establish a demilitarized zone was signed on 17 September 2018, the reconciliation center has documented more than 530 violations of the ceasefire agreement. As a result, 25 Syrian soldiers were killed, 67 people were wounded, including five civilians,” Lieutenant General Vladimir Savchenko, chief of the Russian center for reconciliation of conflicting sides in Syria, told media on November 16.
Savchenko added that at least 25 Syrian servicemen were killed and 67 people, including civilians, were wounded in these incidents.
The provided numbers show that the implementation of the de-escalation agreement is still far from a full success. Multiple militant groups used the Turkish efforts to prevent the Syrian Army advance on Idlib to launch own attacks on government forces in northern Lattakia, northern Hama and southern Aleppo.
When will Russia and Syria say ‘enough is enough’ – they’ve given Turkey ample time to try to reason with and disarm these A-holes – first try to get as many civilians out as you can like they did in Sweida in southern Syria, then go in and take them out! Maybe once the terrorists start losing lives they’ll decide they’d rather live. If not, no loss there!
The numbers of dead and injured are low compared to what would happen in clearing operations. And 20 of the 25 dead may have been from one incident. Once the contribution that the Turks can or will make has run it’s course, clearing of whatever is left will have to resume. The DMZ agreement is in significant default right now due to the Turks lack of delivery of what they claimed that they could deliver. But there has also been significant implementation. And the second phase of the agreement still has time left to go before the deadline.
It’s unlikely that the agreement will be replaced by clearing operations until it’s clear what the Turks can and get get done after the second deadline has passed. At that point an assessment will be made on how to proceed determined by what has actually been accomplished.
Think the winter and the further desintegration off Turkey are worth waiting for.
It would be nice if they cleaned up the mess that they made. But a partial clean up is probably the best that can be hoped for.
But Putin says that it is OK since Erdogan is working very very hard ….., we now know the kind of work Turkey is doing, as usual, providing protection equipment, weapons to terrorists, and time for logistic tactic to attack SAA and Russia armies..
