Clearly Russia is showing a lot of commitment and determination here. However, if I recall correctly initially only a short intervention was envisaged. I think this was supposed to be some 3 to 5 months. So it might be worth reflecting for a moment that this engagement has been a lot more difficult than first anticipated. One of the things that is clear to me at least is how very resilient the ‘militants’ are. Blood thirsty and brutal they certainly are, but they are also skilled tactically and strategically . Even now they seem far from totally defeated.
I am not entirely clear how this has been accomplished. I do understand about all the foreign support etc, but even allowing for this I am unclear how they have managed to maintain a viable force on so many fronts.
They are a hodgepodge of native and foreign paramilitaries.
But so are the regime forces. Without Hezbollah fighters and IRGC officers Syria would be a shithouse now, for example.

Hi Paul. They appear resilient because of the constant flow of weapons and other supplies. Medical help in the Golan Heights or beyond and also in Turkey.
I’m sure the Russians intervened expecting quickly to gain the initiative and then find a political solution but the Americans only wanted to play the Russians. I believe they have come to realize that only a military solution is possible, hence the big buildup.
They are more than just a militant group , their real roots are hidden , but of a nation or nations. Russia seems to have found, unexpected benefits; as NATO tried to box them in , with the CIA revolution in Kiev , the Mediterranean naval port and air force base is a wonderful flanking move . The Egyptian situation if handled well could be even better .
Did it use radar cross section of the metal buildings to simulate radar reflection of ships?

Was it GPS guided or radar guided in terminal phase .Yeah maybe the metal roofs of 4 buildings reflect like a ship . It hit one of the middle roofs .Was it programmed to hit center of reflection ? Just strange.
I guarantee you that is not radar guided by the metal in the roof. Could be several other things, but not that.
I guess the radar is easy to jam by US system. Perhaps it uses infrared or other electromagnetic spectrum to identify target. GPS though useful is not as helpful for moving target like a ship unless GPS data is constantly updated .
the radar is described as an agile frequency-hopper on public available literature, so it’s not easy to jam. Yet, we are talking about the anti-shipping version model. As about guidance for the ground version (if there are different versions, it could also be the same missile with different guidance methods, although it’s kind of unlikely), normally these class of weapons employ TERCOM methods – terrain matching sensors. They are already employed on Kalibr, Kh-65 and Kh-101 series, so there is a high chance this system has them too. High chance does not mean it’s 100% sure anyway.

The buildings do not have Aegis system for jamming radar .
