The Russian Defense Ministry has started strengthening EW capabilities of its military group in Syria deploying additional EW systems, Izvestia newspaper reported on September 25 citing military sources. However, the newspapaer did not point out what kind of the systems is being deployed.
The Russian media speculates that these systems are Krasukha-4 multifunctional jamming stations and R-330ZH Zhitel jamming cellular satellite communication stations.
On September 24, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced that Russia will supply Syria with a S-300 air defense system, equip Syrian Air Defense Forces HQs with automated process-control systems and suppress communications, radars and satellite navigation of combat aviation involved in any attacks on Syria from the eastern Mediterranean.

One more thing, If I may, I don’t think Putin was trying to absolve the Israelis with his initial statements about it being an unfortunate accident. It was the Syrians who shot the plane down. From what I understand, the Russian security forces immediately arrested the Syrians who fired the missile but soon after released them. I think his statements were directed to the Syrians who fired the missile. Which is why he has apparently done a 180. Its not a 180. He was being patient until he had the facts from his military.
My understanding is that Russia arresting Syrians was bogus from the start. As for Putin, his public statement was that it was an unfortunate accident. He was referring to the fact that the Syrians had hit the Russian plane by accident. He further stated in that same remark that he approved of the statement made by the MOD i.e., it passed through him prior to public release. They already knew who was responsible in setting the accident up. They even gave the Israelis a chance to own up to what they had done. The Israeli state, being nothing more than a terrorist organization masquerading as a country, just couldn’t acknowledge what they had done. They lied directly to the Russian MOD face to face which then released the second by second playback as confirmation of Israel’s guilt. Putin never made a 180, he had threatened long ago that there would be repercussions for murdering Russian personnel and he followed through.

As the Russian MOD reported, the deconfliction agreement was effectively non-existent, IAF only alerted Russia 10% of the time, and just before attacks, so Russian planes were never able to get to safety. I would add that current NATO Special Forces are not (yet) suicidal and that is their biggest weakness. We have great knowledge of NATO special forces techniques and all of them are based on surprise attacks based on speed after a close recce of the infiltration and exfiltration routes.
Ground transport is Syria is plentiful but NATO air insertions are now not possible due to the increased air defences. The strategy to defeat the NATO special forces should of course be to protect the targets with layered defences and ALERT soldiers but it is also a necessity in my opinion to have fast a reaction strategy and the trained forces to ensure that NO NATO special forces are able to leave Syria.
The EU special forces in particular love dressing up, so it will also be a necessity to have systems that can identify such playacting. I am sure that those a lot more intelligent than I can design a human ‘Friend or Foe ‘ system within the operational areas concerned that should also include sensors to detect tunneling operations.
Even if Israel destroy a S-300 system via special ops, THREE new ones will be flown in and extra precautions will be made! 3 to replace 1 just to rub it in their face. This will make them think twice about trying to destroy it knowing that if they did so, russia would just replace them in greater numbers making their problems 3 times worse!
