Two Russian military servicemen have been killed as a result of mortar shelling launched by a group of militants in Syria, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday. One more soldier remains in the hospital. Doctors are struggling to save his life.
“Two Russian servicemen were killed in the Syrian Arab Republic as a result of an attack by militants… A mortar shelll explosion killed the two Russian servicemen. Military medics are struggling for the life of a wounded Russian serviceman,” the statement reads.
The servicemen were serving as military advisors within Syrian forces, according to the statement.
The Russian Defense Ministry has not clarified where the incident took place.
Earlier this week, reports about new casualties among the Russian military servicemen deployed in Syria appeared in some Russian media outlets.

Not really. A year ago US analysts concluded that Russia’s commitment was remarkably cost efficient vis-a-vis the air contingent deployed. To point that Pentagon speculated that Russia could maintain the effort for a decade without serious significant detriment to the state budget.
