Russian Missile Strike Wipes Out One Of Ukraine’s Last S-300 Systems (Video)

The Russian military has successfully destroyed one of Ukraine’s last Soviet-made S-300PS long-range air defense systems.

In a statement, the Russian Ministry of Defense said that the air defense system was targeted with an Iskander-M tactical ballistic missile close to the settlement of Progress in the region of Chernighov in northeastern Ukraine.

The Iskander-M is said to have a range of nearly 500 kilometers. The highly-maneuverable missile can be armed with different conventional warheads, although the footage released by the Russian MoD indicates that a version armed with a cluster warhead was used in the strike on the S-300PS near Progress. The missile is guided by a GLONASS-aided inertial navigation system. It can be also equipped with an optical seeker with a digitized scene-mapping area correlator system for terminal guidance.

The strike destroyed the system’s fire control radar, which the footage suggest it was a 5N63S installed on a 40V6M semi-mobile mast, in addition a command vehicle, two transporter erector launchers, of the 5P85D or the 5P85S type, and two support vehicles.

“Secondary detonation and fire were recorded at the site of the hit S-300PS position. Moreover, according to the footage, an evac group of the AFU (Armed Forces of Ukraine) operated there,” the Russian MoD said.

Around a hundred S-300P, S-300PT, S-300PS and S-300V1 batteries were in service with Kiev forces prior to the start of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine more than three years ago. The country received a single S-300PMU battery from Slovakia in the very first few months of the operation.

These systems can engage aerial targets with a range that can extend to 150 kilometers, depending on the interceptor type.

However, most of Ukraine’s S-300 systems have been destroyed, damaged or captured by the Russian military since the start of the special operation.

Just last month, a S-300V1 system was targeted near the settlement of Vorozhba in the Sumy region, which neighbors Chernighov.

Despite these losses, Brig. Gen. Anatolii Klochko, Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Defense, claimed in June that the country was planning to upgrade its remaining S-300 systems.

“S-300 is also awaiting major changes. This work is being done, we are not standing still,” he said. “When the time comes, we will talk about it — we will say it when there is a practical result.”

Klochko acknowledged that the plan remains largely conceptual. However, he suggested that tangible progress could be achieved later this year.

“For now, this work is on paper,” he said. “But in the second half of 2025, I believe we will see more concrete results.”

Ukraine’s air defense network deteriorated significantly over the past year, and despite continuous supplies from the West, including MIM-104 Patriot long-range air defense systems, the situation is only getting worse. The plan to upgrade the remaining S-300 systems shows how Kiev is holding up to crumbs, although it is highly doubtful that anything will remain by the end of this year.

ukraine is probably upgrading with what ever spares they can find. with every system destroyed, russia gains more air space. actual control of air space maps are never shown

derping the obvious, again.

my favorite are buk systems modified to fire aim 7 sparrows (sar seeker). honestly pretty impressive unlike 90% of the other hare brained ideas and tactics.

what’s good there? it’s worse than original “buk-m1”. air to air missiles have several times less range, if to launch them from the ground. m1 missile’s range is up to 35 km, “buk”+aim-7 — 25 km. same is right for nasams. “buk-m2” — 50 km, m3 — 70 km range.

the smell of natostan burning is almost as good as the smell of crispy khazars getting melted by the gallant resistance in occupied palestine. onward to the total destruction of the anglozionazi puss oozing bea$t.

more long range weapons — good and different ones to pleasure all requests of nazis, mercenaries and their chiefs in general’s uniform! no ballistic “iskander” was shot down till this moment. but if to replace one missile with 50 “geraniums”, result will be the same, even if 25 of them will be intercepted. “lancet” flies at least for 70 km, so it could reach aad complex too. radar of “tunguska” is unable to detect “lancet”.

obsolete original s-300 from 80’s with combat radius lower than 100 km. looks like 2 strikes of ballistic “iskander”: one with cluster warhead to stop pigmen and next one with high explosive munition to send them to bandera. they wanted decommunization, they got it!
