The Russian military has been actively using Orion combat drones to hunt down the remnants of Kiev forces in the direction of Kursk.
Between March 3 and 22, videos showing five strikes by Orion drones were posted to social networks. The strikes hit two armored vehicles, an all-terrain vehicle, a howitzer – a Ukrainian-made 2S22 Bohdana – and a gathering of Ukrainian troops.
Most of the strikes took place along the border of Kursk and in the neighboring Ukrainian region of Sumy. X-BPLA missiles were apparently used in all strikes.
The Orion was developed by Russia’s Kronstadt Group to conduct both reconnaissance and combat missions. It has an endurance of 24 hours and a combat radius of 250 kilometers. The drone is typically equipped with an optical targeting system. However, it can also carry a radar or an electronic and signal intelligence gathering system.
The X-BPLA is the air-launched version of the Kornet-D anti-tank missile with semi-active laser guidance instead of a laser beam-riding system. The missile has a maximum engagement range of eight kilometers and is armed with a six kilogram high explosive fragmentation warhead.
Besides the X-BPLA missile, the Orion can be armed with a wide range of precision-guided munitions from the Kab-20 and Kab-50 series.
Earlier this month, the Russian military launched a major offensive in Kursk upon orders from President Vladimir Putin, expelling Kiev forces from the region. Currently, an unknown number of Ukrainian troops are trapped along the region’s border.
It’s worth noting that the Russian military has been using Orion and several other types of combat drones against Kiev forces since the start of the special military operation in Ukraine.

while the drone is not new the missile certainly is and is commented on in american military websites based on the kornet -d anti tank missile its much heavier and is specifically made for drones and has a thermobaric warhead guided by a reflected laser beam it also can be used in the ka-52m helicopter the americans seem quite impressed with it.
even the houthis consistently shoot down this type of drone but ukraine can’t.
woe is them. they never were much of a military gem.
