Russian peacekeepers have entered the city of Stepanakert, the capital of the disputed region of Karabakh to monitor the ceasefire.
Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov, a spokesman for the Ministry of Defense of Russia, said a battalion of the 15th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade were deployed in the Armenian-held city at 17:00 local time.
“Today, on November 12, the advanced units of the Russian peacekeeping contingent began to fulfill the tasks of monitoring the implementation of the ceasefire and military operations in the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh,” Maj. Gen. Konashenkov said. “The ceasefire is monitored along the entire line of contact,” the Major General added.”
The spokesman added that Ten observation posts had been established along the line of contact in Nagorno-Karabakh and on the Lachin corridor.

On November 9, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev and Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a Russian-brokered peace deal to end the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh.
Russia will deploy 1,960 troops, 90 armored personnel carriers, 380 vehicles and special equipment units in Nagorno-Karabakh to oversee the implementation of the agreement. A Russian-Turkish monitoring center will be also established for this purpose.
The Russian-brokered peace deal will also see Baku and Yerevan exchanging prisoners of war and the bodies of those killed in combat.
