Russian pilots have begun buzzing American fighter jets over Syria in an apparent attempt to start a dogfight, United States Air Forces Central (AFCENT) commander Lieutenant General Alexus Grynkewich told the publication Defense One on April 29.
According to the commander, Russian pilots are “increasingly bellicose” in their approach and “aggressively maneuvering, almost like they’re trying to dogfight.
“Our protocols would say we’re supposed to stay … several miles apart and just monitor each other,” Lt. Gen. Grynkewich said, adding that he cautioned American pilots not to engage.
Dogfight is a term used to describe an aerial battle between two fighter jets or more that includes maneuvers conducted at a very close range.
“We’re not going to act like they are,” Lt. Gen. Grynkewich said. “We’re going to act in a professional manner, and we’re going to try to de-escalate the situation.”
Earlier this month, AFCENT said that Russian fighter jets directly flew over the U.S.-led coalition bases in Syria at least 26 times between March 1 to April 19 of this year. The command added that there had been 63 “violations” since March of deconfliction protocols between U.S. and Russian forces that were put into place just in 2019.
AFCENT also released a video showing a Russian fighter jet conducting an “unsafe and unprofessional” intercept of a US F-16 fighter jet on April 2, and another from April 18 showing a Russian fighter that flew over a coalition base and came within 2,000 feet of a U.S. fighter jet.
The U.S. maintains some 900 troops in Syria, all of whom are deployed between key gas and oil fields in the country’s northeastern region and a garrison that blocks a strategic highway in the southeastern region.
While the Russian military is present in the country according to an official invitation from the legitimate government in Damascus, the U.S.-led coalition operates there without any authorization from the government or the international community under the pretext of fighting ISIS.
Tensions between Russian and U.S. forces in Syria have been growing since Moscow launched a special military operation in Ukraine last year.
A recently leaked U.S. intelligence document revealed a plot by Ukrainian intelligence to attack Russian bases in Syria with help from a U.S. proxy group, the Kurdish-led Syrian democratic Forces. This explains the defensive measures being taken by the Russian military group in the country.

Russia should be wiping those American bases off the map in Syria, the bitches have no right being there or in Syrian airspace, it would be good payback for the attacks on Russians using Nato weapons in Ukraine.

I think if Turkey could arm Azerbaijan with more weapons, especially long range precision missiles, Russia won’t dare start a war with Azerbaijan over N-K. Neither will Iran.
