On the evening of March 7th, Russian forces launched a precision missile strike on one of the Ukrainian military facilities in the Sumy region. The local authorities confirmed the strike, while the local sources claimed heavy casualties among the Ukrainian military as a result of the attack.

After a large explosion thundered in the city of Sumy, Ukrainian authorities were forced to acknowledge that their air defense forces failed to intercept Russian missile; but they lied that the target of the strike was allegedly some civilian facility.

The footage from the city allowed to reveal that the target of the Russian strike was the headquarters of the Sumy border guards detachment. The building used for the permanent deployment of the Ukrainian military was almost destroyed. According to additional reports, the attack took place during a meeting of the commanders of the local border outposts. The timing of the meeting may be the reason why the Russian military launched the risky strike in the afternoon, while most of the attacks on the Ukrainian rear facilities are launched at night.

The exact number of the Ukrainian losses is unlikely to be officially revealed, but given the scale of the destruction, it can be supposed that the strike was highly effective.

The Ukrainian border guards, along with the servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, are responsible for daily artillery and mortar attacks on the border areas of Russia, which have repeatedly led to civilian casualties.
