On the morning of January 2, a Ukrainian UAV attacked the Russian border Bryansk region. As a result of the strike, the power supply facility located in the Klimovsky district was damaged.
A large fire broke out at the facility. According to the head of the region, Alexander Bogomaz, no one was injured.
Another attempt of the AFU to strike the facilities on the Russian territory took place in the Voronezh region. At night, Russian air defense forces shot down a small-sized reconnaissance drone launched from Ukraine. The air target was intercepted near the city of Voronezh located about 200 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. The government of the Voronezh region confirmed the incident and reported that there were no casualties or any destruction.
The Ukrainian military likely attempted to hit the Russian Baltimore airfield located in the area. Russian Su-34 supersonic fighter-bombers are reportedly based there.
The Russian Belgorod region was also shelled by Ukrainian forces. The border village of Murom came under fire of Ukrainian artillery. According to the governor of the region Vyacheslav Gladkov, two private houses and one car were damaged, there were no injuries.
The Ukrainian military continues its attempts to inflict as much damage as possible on Russia. Russian border villages are constantly being shelled by Ukrainian artillery. Ukrainian military commanders have learned the lessons provided by their Russian counterparts and have begun targeting energy infrastructure facilities that they can reach on Russian territories. Such attacks are mainly aimed at terrorizing the population in the border regions of Russia, since they do not have any significant military impact. Most civilians have already been evacuated from these villages, but the attacks allow Ukrainians to claim that they can pose some threat to Russian civilians.
As for the ongoing attempts by Ukrainian drones to reach military facilities located in various western regions of Russia, they still pose a significant threat, including to Russian aviation. After three relatively successful strikes by Ukrainian drones in the Saratov (2 times) and Ryazan (once) regions, the most recent attempts by Ukraine to attack airfields failed. LINK, LINK, LINK The Russian military has probably taken measures to strengthen security at strategically important facilities. However, some enemy aircraft launched from Ukrainian territory still manage to cross the border and fly hundreds of kilometers over Russia before being intercepted over the military facilities.
