AlMasdarNews reports: According to a source in the National Defence Forces (NDF), a Russian soldier died earlier today as his vehicle was hit by an IED (roadside bomb) while distributing aid in the Aleppo governorate.
The soldier, identified as Nikita Shevchenko, was seriously wounded by the explosion and later died of his injuries despite frantic efforts by local medics.
Although not specifying the exact location of the incident, the NDF source stressed the soldier was killed by one of many Islamist groups operating in the province.
Nikita Shevchenko is the 16th Russian soldier to be killed during military service in Syria.
