The Russian military has targeted a large gathering of the National Guard of Ukraine (NGU) in the Kharkiv region with an Iskander-M tactical ballistic missile.
The gathering was discovered by a reconnaissance drone near the settlement of Peresechnoye, according to Russian media, which reported that some 160 troops from the NGU’s 13th “Khartia” Brigade were killed in the missile strike.
Video footage of the strike surfaced online on July 16. The footage showed submunitions from the Iskander-M missile raining down on the gathering right after the arrival of several buses loaded with troops. Later in the footage, ambulances can be seen heading to the scene of the strike.
The Iskander-M missile has a range of nearly 500 kilometers. It can be armed with different conventional warheads, including a cluster munitions warhead, a fuel–air explosive enhanced-blast warhead, a high-explosive fragmentation warhead, an earth penetrator for bunker busting and an electromagnetic pulse device for anti-radar missions.
The highly-maneuverable missile is guided by a GLONASS-aided inertial navigation system. It can be also equipped with an optical seeker with a digitized scene-mapping area correlator system for terminal guidance.
Russia increased the production of Iskander-M missiles after the start of the special military operation in Ukraine more than two years ago.
In recent months, the Russian military began to rely more on the missile to quickly target high-value Ukrainian targets far behind the frontline.

v-2 carries 1 ton warhead, “iskander-m” — 720/800 kg (various sources). modern sorts of explosives are more powerful and luster munition is more effective against not armored targets. 500 meter radius is too big even for 3-ton bomb — lethal radius is 39 meters, concussion radius – 158 meters, radius of damage with fragments of bomb’s body — up to 260 meters.

the spread of the cluster is too large to be effective i seriously doubt if the dead and injured amounted to more than half a dozen the claim of 160 is silly
each explosion you see, spreads thousands of steel balls, which you don’t see, but if you can, imagine each cloud, having an effective radius that overlaps the other cloud. basically, it rained steel on whoever was in the area.

relax, there are no military experts, so discussion helps to find out more. “none” is right, cluster munition spreads many steel fragments (not balls, but almost the same) after the blast of 54 sub-elements of “iskander-m” cluster warhead. sub-elements explodes on 6-meter height. spread is needed to cover bigger square and hit more soft targets, it’s like mlrs salvo, but with one single missile.
the spread radius of this cluster ammunition is much too big, while at the same time the number of cluster elements much too small. effectively, it amounts to a few ten little grenades being thrown to an area of multiple hectars in size. i doubt that the busses took even a scratch.
