Unlike previous days, there were no reports of massive Russian strikes on the territory of Ukraine last night, but several pinpoint strikes destroyed various targets in the rear areas of Ukraine on April 28. On the morning of April 29, the strikes continued.
According to local reports, Russian strikes inflicted heavy damage to the Ukrainian military in the war-torn areas in the eastern Kharkiv region. On the evening of April 28, Russian forces reportedly hit a major railway junction in the town of Borovaya located not far from the current frontlines. The town is an important logistics hub used by the Ukrainian military for supply of military equipment, ammunition and manpower to the northern Donbass frontlines. The strikes were reportedly launched at about 10 p.m., several loud explosions were reported in the area. The result of the attack are yet to be confirmed by any videos or the satellite imagery.
Large Ukrainian forces are stationed in the town of Borovaya, which is used as an important logistics hub. That’s why the settlement is constantly pounded by Russian airstrikes, including with heavy aerial bombs. On April 12, 16 and 18, Russian bombs successfully destroyed the locations of the notorious 3rd Separate Assault Brigade of the AFU in Borovaya. Ukrainian military sources soon confirmed heavy losses of the unit.
On April 28, another Russian successful strike was confirmed by the footage shared by the local residents on the social media. Large fire broke out in the Yuzhny port in the southern Odessa region.
Judging by the footage from the area, Russian strikes likely damaged the fuel storage facilities. The sea and river ports in the Odessa region are regularly targeted by Russian drones and missiles because they are used to support the supply of foreign weapons and military equipment to the country.
Over the past day, Russian forces also attacked more military infrastructure facilities in other Ukrainian regions. A series of explosions thundered in the areas of military airfields in Chernihiv and Khmelnitsky regions; a shipbuilding plant in Nikolaev also came under fire, as well as a hotel reportedly used for the accommodation of foreign fighters. According to preliminary reports, at least two Russian missiles struck the military airfield in Mirgorod, Poltava region, on April 29. Ukrainian air defense forces reportedly missed the attack and had even no time to react. The airfield is also one of the most often targeted military facilities in the Ukrainian rear. LINK
The depletion of Ukrainian air defenses allows the Russian military to launch drone and missile strikes on the Ukrainian rear at any time. Their effectiveness is increasing, while fewer drones and missiles are needed to carry out a single attack and reach the target.
