The Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) destroyed six terror bases, three workshops and a drone depot in the northwestern Syrian region of Greater Idlib, Captain 1st rank Oleg Ignasyuk, deputy chief of the Russian Center for Reconciliation in Syria, announced in a briefing on October 17.
“The Russian Aerospace Forces continued to carry out airstrikes on illegal armed groups involved in acts of provocations in the Idlib de-escalation zone,” the Russian military official said. “The airstrikes destroyed six militant bases, three workshops and a drone depot, as well as a training camp, a stronghold and ammunition depot belonging to the illegal armed groups,” he specified.”
VKS warplanes carried out nearly 70 strikes against Greater Idlib, which is occupied by al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its allies, in the last few days. The strikes reportedly killed or wounded dozens of terrorists.
Video footage showing some of the strikes that recently hit terror sites in the region were posted to social networks on October 17.
The VKS resumed strikes on Greater Idlib following reports of a plan by HTS and its allies to launch a large-scale attack against the Syrian military in order to take advantage of the distraction caused by the ongoing Israeli war on both the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
Russian intelligence also warned recently that the secret services of the Kiev regime were active in the region, providing arms to HTS and recruiting terrorists to fight in Ukraine.
It’s worth noting that the recent provocations by HTS and its allies violate a ceasefire agreement that was brokered by Russia and Turkey more than four years ago.
