The Russian military’s Sever Group of Forces has inflicted more human and material losses on Kiev forces in the direction of Kursk.
Ukraine’s 22nd, 41st, 115th mechanized brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 95th Air Assault Brigade, 36th Marine Brigade and 1st National Guard Brigade as well as the 103rd, and 129th territorial defense brigades took heavy losses, the Russian Ministry of Defense said in its September 22 briefing, adding that most of the losses were close to the settlements of Lyubimovka, Daryino, Novy Put, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Tolsty Lug, Malaya Loknya and Plekhovo.
The ministry also announced that the Sever Group of Forces repelled seven attacks by Kiev forces near the settlements of Maryevka, Malaya Loknya and Bolshaya Obukhovka, killing or wounding at least 20 Ukrainian troops.
The group also thwarted three Ukrainian attempts to break through the Russian border close to the settlements of Novy Put and Medvezhye, according to the ministry.
“The AFU [Armed Forces of Ukraine] losses amounted to up to 40 troops killed and wounded, two armored fighting vehicles, one counter obstacle vehicle, and two motor vehicles. Five AFU servicemen surrendered,” the ministry detailed in its briefing.
In addition, the ministry said that Russian air and artillery strikes hit gatherings of the 22nd, 41st, 61st, 115th mechanized brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 80th, 95th air assault brigades, 36th Marine Brigade and 1st National Guard Brigade as well as the 103rd and 129th territorial defense brigades near the settlements of Guyevo, Kazachaya Loknya, Kolmakovo, Lyubimovka, Mikhaylovka, Malaya Loknya, Melovaya, Malaya Obukhovka, Medvezhye, Novy Put, Novaya Sorochina, Novoivanovka, Orlovka, Plekhovo, Russkoye Porechnoye, Sverdlikovo, Pravda, Tolsty Lug, Cherkasskaya Konopelka and Yuzhny.
Other strikes hit, according to the ministry, the reserves of the 21st, 22nd, 41st, 115th mechanized brigades, 82nd Air Assault Brigade, 1st National Guard Brigade, 1004th Security and Service Brigade as well as the 103rd, 110th, and 116th territorial defense brigades close to the settlements of Belopolye, Boyaro-Lezhachi, Bondaryovshchina, Glukhov, Zhuravka, Obody, Peremoga, Pavlovka, Rechki, Radkovka, Sumy, Shalygino and Khoten in the Ukrainain region of Sumy, which borders Kursk.
“▫️ Over the past 24 hours, the AFU losses amounted to more than 380 troops and 11 units of hardware, including two tanks and nine armored fighting vehicles, as well as three artillery guns, one electronic warfare station, one mine clearing vehicle, and 14 motor vehicles,” the ministry said.
Russian media released videos showing some of the recent strikes that targeted Ukrainian troops and their equipment in Kursk and Sumy.
Kiev forces launched a surprise attack on Kursk last August. Since the start of the attack, at least 31 Russian civilians have been killed and more than 143 others have been wounded. Moreover, the attack displaced more than 144,000 civilians. The fate of some 2,000 others who lived in areas attacked by Kiev forces remain unknown.
The Russian military launched a counter-attack in Kursk earlier this month. So far, nearly a dozen settlements have been reportedly liberated.
According to the Russian MoD, since the start of the battle in Kursk Kiev forces have lost 16,000 troops, 126 tanks, 57 infantry fighting vehicles, 95 armored personnel carriers, 795 armored fighting vehicles, 492 motor vehicles, 124 artillery guns, 29 launchers, including eight American-made HIMARS and six MLRS systems, eight air defense systems, five transport-loading vehicles, 31 electronic warfare stations, seven counter-battery radars, two aerial radars, 17 engineering vehicles, including ten counter obstacle vehicles and one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle.
