Russian Tanks Equipped With Sanya Electronic Warfare Systems To Suppress Ukrainian Drones

The Russian military began to equip tanks with the Sanya system designed specifically to suppress FPV drones. Footage of the tank with new equipment was published by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The Sanya electronic warfare system is seen on the T-80BV M tanks of the 9th Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 1st Army Corps, which is fighting in the area of Pervomaiskoe near Avdeevka. The footage clearly shows the complex mounted on the on the top of the tank, which allows to protect the tank from all sides, creating a “dome” around it.

According to the declared characteristics of the Sanya system, it detects enemy UAVs at a range of 1.5 km and disables drones at a distance of 1 km. The power of the complex is 1100 watts. It is installed on the anti-drone grid above the tower. The Sanya electronic warfare system was developed by 3MX in St. Petersburg specifically to protect Russian armored vehicles on Ukrainian frontlines. The Russian military had already conducted the tests last year, which completed by the end of 2023.

i am pretty sure they already have this stuff, hence why a lot of drone videos get fuzzy when they get near their target. the question is how far out does it reach, if the 1km range is reliable it could be effective but ai and other programming could easily make drones autonomous and not be effected by this.

totally agree. this is some kind of a crude solution. would prefer radar and some kind of ballistics or laser that take out targets and javelins.

“would prefer radar and some kind of ballistics or laser”

would you now, weapons designer? if we left it up to u, u wud create a seven wheeled gigantic diaperhead made of tinfoil. what’s the last wheel for genius?

Dr. Zivago

hopefully the system can disturb gps signals, else useless and yes its crude.

CentralAsianStudies

most ukrainian drones aren’t sophisticated to have the level of tech required for that. most are crudely made or imported and carry a relatedly small payload. those that aren’t are the expensive western supplied ones which also don’t have the ai targeting yet.

kre

no. the reason it gets “fuzzy” is because drone gets closer to the ground, hence interferance and signal not being clear which makes it loose signal strenght.

concerned citizen

the “fuzzyness” towards the target is not new. in longer distance strikes, it’s just the curvature of the earth and other ground obstructions that block the reception when the drone dives down.

bounty

so basically it is a jammer, its antennas emit the signal. so it’s essentially an easy target to aim at, right?

good development, when the frontlines collapse they now can be used effectively to chase the enemy and keep pressuring before new defensive lines are formed

armoured reconnaissance with single main battle tanks shows a military industrial complex with a healthy state of replenishment affairs.

drone can be hardened. programmed to lock onto a target from an operator and sent home by algos. not exactly garage drones anymore… with larger warheads to make up for other anti-explosive tech. i would like to know what em tech it was that took the donald cook and others off target. quasi-ufo/nazi tech. algo facial recognition is more than enough to whack some tanks. probably would fit on a thumb drive or smaller, and the faraday cage closed on final lock-on, even charged if warranted.

could, would. these are not the drones that ukraine is using. if every single piece of equipment was outfitted with jammers then 99.999% of ukrainian drones would be rendered obsolete, and that is a fact.

the only problem is that they don’t all have jammers.
