A Tor M2 surface-to-air missile system has been for the first time spotted in the Russian Khmeimim air base in Syria, according to a photo released by Livejournal blogger Ecoross1 that visited Syria on April 21-22 within a group of the Russian journalists and bloggers.
The released photo is the first confirmation of the Tor M2 surface-to-air missile system deployment in Syria. The Tor M2 is a low to medium altitude, short-range air defense system. It’s designed to engage aircraf, cruise missiles, precision guided munitions, unmanned aerial vehicles and short-range missile threats.
Other photos released by Ecoross1 also show that the Russian military has set up a safety fencing near parked aircraft. This effort is most likely a result of the repeated attempts by militants to attack the airbase, including attempts damage Russian aircraft with mortar or rocket fire. In December 2017, a mobile militant group armed with mortars even succeeded in this.

Very sensible precaution! I can’t wait to see Syria get the S300’s! The Israeli rection should be worth watching as they will be completely snookered. Control of Syrian airspace denied permenently; not before time I may add. Great stuff as this will allow Syria to rebuild their country in peace and enble the country to return to prosperity. Tor M2 also intended to defend against the regular unguided ballistic missiles employed by insurgents. I think this is serious since they also anticipated an attack originated very close from their bases.

I wish the immigrants from Europe will return, but that will require action on the part of European governments. So many of those migrants are from Somalia or West Africa that what happens in Syria is totally irrelevant to whether or not they go back. :(

Both the Pantsir and the Tor M2 fill a critical role providing an integrated layered air defense, working in conjunction with S-300 and S-400 systems that Russia has in theater (on naval vessels as well)
Those are mostly for missiles and other light objects, while the s3 and 400’s are hard hitters that make pilots shit themselves. I thinks Pantsir systems will have a hard time shooting down planes, also because of their relatively short range.

Tor M2 is a great addition to Pantsir close intercept air defense systems, its rockets have a longer range, and they are equally deadly as the Pantsir missiles. Low level penetration by Israeli airplanes or high level bombings using smart bombs are a thing of the past. A battalion of Pantsir consisting 8 vehicles can fire 96 missiles at incoming targets, and a battalion of Tor M2 could fire 64 missiles before reloads, ample firepower to repel air attacks involving 3-4 squadrons of Israeli fighters……….something Israel has not done in decades.
