Russian Tor-M2 System Shoots Downs Ukrainian Furia Drone In Newly Released Footage

Screengrab, by the Russian Ministry of Defense, via Sputnik.

On April 29, the Russian Ministry of Defense released video footage showing a Tor-M2 air defense system intercepting a drone of Kiev forces over the special military operation zone.

The Tor-M2 first tracks the small drone, identified as an A1-CM Furia, with its radar and optical systems, then shoots it down with a single missile.

The Tor-M2 is a deeply upgraded version of the Soviet-era Tor medium-altitude, short-range air defense system. This version has an improved fire control radar coverage and protection against spoofing. It can also engage up to four targets simultaneously.

The main armament of the Tor-M2 is the 9M338 missile, which has a range of 16 kilometers and a flight ceiling of ten kilometers. A single system can be armed with up to 16 of the advanced compact missile.

The Furia is a hand-launched tactical reconnaissance drone that was developed by the Kiev-based Athlon Avia. The drone has an endurance of up to three hours and an operational range of 50 kilometers. It is typically equipped with an electro-optical system.

Russian short and medium-range air defense systems were proven to be highly effective against reconnaissance or combat drones in the course of the special military operations in Ukraine. According to the most recent briefing by the Russian MoD, 3,901 drones of Kiev forces have been shot down since the beginning of the operation.

but the drones are cheap no? So they can send dozens of them. While the Tor systems are expensive to build and run.

Nope, not all drones are cheap. Some are damn expensive, Bayrachtar shit is one example, punk.

It is not straight forward logic as you might think. Do not compare Tor system in price, but one short range Tor missile to the price of the drone. The only thing that is less expensive of the short range missiles are Pantsir auto cannon 30mm bullets. Also it is cheaper to use slightly more expensive missile to take down drone than to lose some valuable equipment (that is much more expensive) because of that drone. They use their short range missiles for the medium to big size drones….. Normally the short range missiles are less expensive.

Lppks like a MUGAN 5, 85KG. Not so “hand launchable and can carry up to a 25kg payload. Perhaps that is why the video shows that the drone looks to be flying at a 200+Km/h speed.

IMO your question was quite logical and reasonable. That exact calculus has been applied on the other foot, eg, wasting multi-million dollar American Patriot missiles (albeit admittedly junk) and Israeli Iron Dome munitions (ditto) to deal with hordes of cheap mass-produced commercial drones.

So if there are more details to be considered, then at the very least the question has to be asked.

TBH I don’t see why your comment has been so heavily downvoted.

Justin

How cheap is the factory to make them? How cheap are the engineers? How cheap are the components supply factories? Who is able to destroy infrastructure who who celebrates if they can get one building every 6 months? Do the math!

Half the army of hohol Kiev reich junta are on steroids and drugs. I told you motherfucker I have good intel. Pamfil Military Academy always serve the highest possible evaluations. My relative told me that almost all from the jumarican bosses to pulansky friends are aware of the situation of the ukroshit drugged mass soldiers. In fact they directly provide them drugs. Not long ago romanian news was about an illegal pharma plant right in the middle of capital. The attorneys discovered that in front they produced vitamin C but in fact they produced precursors of drugs which exported them in………………..where do you think ?????????????? In POLAND. But after just 1 day ALL that info was deleted from any TV or media channels….free investigators discovered that was an ameriscum CovOp and by accident somehow the info was leaked to public……

A massive concentrated EMP shockwave is more cost effective.

And what is the cost of allowing the drone get to it’s target ?

Perhaps World War I planes would be the cheapest way to shoot down such a drone.

In a surprise move, the U.S. Army has decided not to buy more Switchblade 300 kamikaze drones.

A U.S. Army spokesperson would not comment on whether the program was being terminated, saying only that “The Lethal Miniature Aerial Missile System (LMAMS) has satisfied the Department of Defense fielding and replenishment requirements” and declined to make further comment.

Surprise move? not at all. Switchblades were hailed as one of the first “wunderwaffe” of the conflict but failed miserably, totally overshadowed and humiliated by Lancets . Time for Pentagoon to spend $ 100 billion on some other crap project 😁

The Ukranazis tried to kill the Russian President with that drone last week. Now Russia has the right to do the same with Elensky. Tit for tat. do it asap.
