Russian troops are using about 600 silhouette-blurring stealth suits which are nearly invisible to thermal imagers in the special military operation in Ukraine, the tech firm HiderX told TASS on May 24.
“We began with 25 suits that we handed out to Russian troops for testing. Now about 600 of our camouflage ‘stealth suits’ that blur a human silhouette are employed in the special operation area. A group of servicemen in the Kharkov direction also wore our suits. Camouflage suits are used in all the frontline areas of the special operation,” the tech firm said.
HiderX added that its silhouette-blurring suits, which were unveiled earlier this year, operate well regardless of the season.
“The gear is suitable for daily camouflaging but its main goal is to hide a soldier from thermal imagers at night. The cloak hides both the soldier and the weapons he carries because an assault rifle is also seen through a thermal imager,” the firm explained.
HiderX released video footage in April showing its stealth suit, which weighs just 400 grams, significantly lowers the heat signature of a soldier, making it nearly impossible to detect by ground or air-based thermal imagers.
HiderX said in January that it was in the final stages of testing a material that “seemed to blur the silhouette” and that the product will be completed by the end of the month.
The technology used in the suits involves “coating fabrics” with a compound, the company revealed at the time, without disclosing any more details.
