On October 17, Russian military’s Vostok [East] Group of Forces captured Pryvillya after successfully breaking through Ukrainian defenses in the Dnepropetrovsk once again.
The capture of Pryvillya, which is located along the Yanchur River, was confirmed by the Russian Ministry of Defense. Russian troops advanced more than five kilometers from Verbove to reach the settlement, capturing a large area on the way.
The next step by the Vostok Group of Forces will likely be an attack on Vyshneve to the north. Russian troops have been advancing towards the eastern outskirts of the settlement from Verbove.
More importantly, the remaining Ukrainian defenses along the Yanchur are now under pressure from Pryvillya. Kiev forces could soon be forced out of Zlahoda, Rybne, Pryvil’ne and Pavlivka.
Further to the south along the river, Ukrainian troops are facing a critical situation in Poltavka in the Zaprorozhye direction. The Vostok Group of Forces is advancing in the settlements’ eastern and central parts. The Russian MoD could announce the capture of the settlement within a few days.
The capture of Poltavka will allow Russian troops to advance westward to Huliapole, a stronghold of Kiev forces. Ukrainian defenses there seem to be more prepared, however.
To the west in Zaprorozhye, the paratroops of the Vostok Group of Forces have reportedly made gains in the southern part of Prymorske, and cleared a large area to the west of Stepnohirsk. Kiev forces are, however, still conducting counterattacks there. Thus, no breakthrough is to be expected there any time soon.
While the breakthrough in Dnepropetrovsk was the most important move of the last 24 hours, an advance was also reported to the east in the Donetsk direction.
The Yug [South] Group of Forces cleared a large part of the pocket located between Kuzmynivka, Pereizne and Vyimka to the south of the city of Seversk. Operations there could accelerate in the coming days. Zvanivka, the last settlement before the southern outskirts of Seversk, will likely be the main target.
The group also resumed towards Kostiantynivka. Russian troops were reportedly able to reach the first houses in the eastern part of the city after advancing from Predtechyne. Kiev forces will likely attempt to counterattack, but there are no guarantees that such a move would be successful.
All in all, Kiev forces are not doing well in any direction. The situation of Ukrainian defenses in Dnepropetrovsk appears to be the worst. Further advance by the Russian military is to be expected. Kiev is clearly facing serious shortages, especially when it comes to manpower. Still, a complete collapse seems unlikely as drones make large-scale attacks nearly impossible.
