Russian Troops Make Steady Advance In Pokrovsk Amid Ukrainian Collapse (Video)

On October 22, the Russian military advanced within Pokrovsk and in areas located near the key city in the Donetsk direction as Ukraine threw in more reinforcements.

The Tsentr [Center] Group of Forces broke through Ukrainian defenses along the railway tracks in the center of the city, advancing into its northern part, mainly in the Olshansky Street. Reports indicate, however, that some Ukrainian troops present in the southern part of the city, very possibly trapped, between Prokofyeva Street and Yubileyny Park.

In addition, Russian troops began storming the eastern part of Pokrovsk, advancing from Novopavlivka to the south, which was captured just a few days earlier.

The troops also made gains in Rodynske, which is located to the north of Pokrovsk, right on the road linking the city with Dobropillia, a key logistic hub of Kiev forces.

Advance by Russian troops was also reported in the eastern part of Myrnohrad, located right to the east of Pokrovsk, although details were not provided.

Overall, Ukraine appears to be about to lose control of Pokrovsk and its surrender, and the slow collapse taking place there now may be the start of an unorganized retreat.

Even Ukrainian media have begun to admit the defeat. A report published by The Kyiv Independent on October 22 said that the situation is deteriorating rapidly in the “fortress city”.

Ukrainian defenses are under “growing strain,” according to the report, which reveals that Russian attack and reconnaissance drones are operating around the clock, targeting vehicles and trenches, which is hindering troop rotations and supply deliveries.

It also admits that Kiev forces, “stretched thin across multiple fronts,” are facing manpower shortages, with fatigued units operating at reduced strength and reinforcements arriving slowly.

“The potential fall of Pokrovsk would have far-reaching consequences for the war. Losing the city would disrupt Ukraine’s supply lines,” the report reads.

In what may be a last ditch effort to hold onto Pokrovsk, some reports suggest that Ukraine is still throwing more reinforcements in the city.

Kiev forces have refused to order an organized retreat from Pokrovsk for weeks now, likely for reasons related to the image of the regime in Western media. Now, the window for such a move appears to be closing. If this decision is not taken soon, all Ukrainian troops in the city and its surroundings will likely end up getting killed or captured.
