The Russian military repelled a Ukrainian counterattack in the Dobropillya salient in the Donetsk direction, and made more gains in the directions of Dnepropetrovsk and Zaporozhye by October 3.
The Ukrainian counterattack in the Dobropillya salient targeted Dorozhnye. It was spearheaded by two American-made Bradley infantry fighting vehicles. Both were damaged by landmines, then finished off by the Tsentr [Center] Group of Forces with drones.
The failure of the counterattack was a blow to Kiev forces, which are now facing increasing pressure in the salient, specifically in their pockets to the south of Nykanorivka and to the west of Popiv Yar.
Moving to Dnepropetrovsk, the Vostok [East] Group of Forces has reportedly expanded its bridgehead across the Vovcha River in Ivanivka. Russian troops are said to be in control of most of the settlement’s eastern part, and steadily advancing towards its center.
Kiev forces are still fighting in Ivanivka, but the settlement could fall soon. From there, Russian troops will be able to advance towards Novopavlivka to the east, or Havrylivka to the west. In either case, several Ukrainian supply routes will be threatened.
To the west in Dnepropetrovsk, Russian troops have already begun advancing from Verbove towards Vyshneve, with preliminary reports indicating that they have already reached the eastern outskirts of the settlement. However, considering the risk posed by further Russian advance in this evolving salient, Kiev forces will likely fight fiercely.
In addition to the attack on Vyshneve, the Vostok Group of Forces is reported to have made gains to the west of Novohryhorivka and Novoivanivka to the south in Zaporozhye. More to the south, Russian troops made a major push towards Poltavka, and are now present right along the eastern, southeastern and southern outskirts of the settlement.
All settlements held by Kiev forces between Vyshneve and Poltavka are now at risk. Ukrainian defense lines there are so far holding up, but a breakthrough along this line can’t be rolled out. Such a breakthrough would be catastrophic for Ukrainian troops in Huliapole, further to the west in Zaporozhye.
Overall, the Russian military is still working to secure the Dobropillya salient. Kiev forces could launch more counterattacks there. Between Dnepropetrovsk and Zaporozhye, Russian troops are advancing faster than before. However, the Ukranians are still fighting back.
