Russia’s Tu-95MS strategic bombers carried out missile strikes on ISIS and the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda (now known as Hayat Tahrir al-Sham) in the provinces of Idlib and Deir Ezzor.
The bombers flew over the territory of Iran and Iraq and launched Kh-101 cruise missiles on terrorists destroying their “command posts, troop concentrations, and military equipment, as well as ammunition depots,” Russian Defense Ministry spokesman, Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said.
Konashenkov added that the targets were away from positions of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the US Special Operations Forces in Syria.
On Monday, the SDF accused Russia on striking its positions. The Russian military rejected these claims.

The use of the word ‘sudden’ implies a fast attack. Does this mean that the US was informed at the last minute and therefore hopefully without time to warn the terror gangs and also warn their CIA type operatives embedded with the terror gangs ? I do hope so
Nop. USA and Russia have the capability to see any plane, missile, car, or people around the world. For sure, USA new in advance that those planes lead to Syria sky and warn terrorists, if the communication was ok, but for sure USA is not capable to know which target Russia will hit, until the las minute (too late for the terrorists).

yes. to add to this, consider that the cruise missiles employed by the TUs can be programmed to make several turns in their path.
This means that, contrarily to aero-ballistic weapons, you cannot predict what target such a missile is going to hit.
As you said, there is no way that you can warn anybody, except maybe tell them that “perhaps they are going to die”.

Today is an interesting anniversary. 26th september 1983 Stanislaw Petrow found himself in the middle of nightmare on secret station Serukhow-15. The computers informed him, That yanks shoot nuclear missiles on USSR. Data from satellites showed, they were fired from several missile silos.
This happend in time several weeks after shooting down of koran plane by soviets. So there was also political reason for attack. According to rules he had to forward this info immediately the higher command. Instead of this Petrow looked for possibly errors in system. He had only several minutes. And he found: the satellites the mirroring of sunshine on clouds understood as missiles.
IF he would forward the info without checking, the higher command would not have time to control the situation. Would have only the possibility to order nuclear contraattack.
His story was kept in secret until 1998. Everybody hold him a hero, but he always told: i made only my duty.

My opinion is, that he and the other heroes, who saved the world in similar situation, should get Nobel prize for peace. And not the politicians.

Since ISIS and SDF positions are close to each other or intermingled together, intending to strike ISIS and hitting SDF and other “terrorists” would be practical.
