On April 15, the Turkish military and the Russian Military Police conducted another joint patrol on the M4 highway in the northwestern Syrian region of Greater Idlib.
As usual, the patrol was very limited. Russian and Turkish forces patrolled a short strip of the M4 between the towns of Tronba and al-Nerab.

The highway links the port city of Lattakia with Aleppo city, the country’s industrial hub. Under the March 5 agreement, Turkey committed to reopen the strategic highway. Nevertheless, this is yet to happen.
This was the fourth limited joint patrol on the M4, which is still blocked by opposition supporters and radical militants in several areas.
The Turkish military attempted to reopen the highway day earlier. This led to clashes with the locals, who renewed their protests within a few hours.
Turkey is clearly making efforts to implement the March 5 agreement. However, these efforts have been fruitless, thus far.
If Turkey fail to implement the agreement by reopening the M4 highway, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies will be forced to resume military operation in Greater Idlib. This will for sure lead to a confrontation with Turkish forces in the region.
