The Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) continue to support Syrian government operations against ISIS cells in Deir Ezzor’s western desert.
On December 8, warplanes of the VKS carried out a series of airstrikes on hideouts of the terrorist groups between the towns of Kobajjep and Sholah, according to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The two towns are located on a highway linking Deir Ezzor city with the ancient city of Palmyra in the eastern Homs countryside.
A day earlier, Russian warplanes carried out at least 15 airstrikes on ISIS cells’ hideouts in the deserts of Deir Ezzor and Raqqa.
Last week, the Syrian Arab Army, the National Defense Forces and several other pro-government formations kicked off a combing operation in Deir Ezzor’s western desert in response to a series of attacks by ISIS cells.
On December 2 only, the terrorists massacred nine civilians and a service member at a fake checkpoint they set up on al-Madhul – al-Bu Juma’a road in the western countryside of Deir Ezzor. The terrorists also killed two pro-government fighters in a hit-run-attack that targeted a position of the NDF in the outskirts of the town of al-Masrab in the northern countryside of the governorate.
Syrian government forces are currently deploying additional reinforcements in the western and southern countryside of Deir Ezzor in order to expand their operation.
The ongoing operation in Deir Ezzor’s western desert will for sure drive ISIS cells out from the region for the time being. Still, a comprehensive solution to end the terrorist group’s insurgency in central Syria is needed.
Isrealhell will have their attack dogs US, extract them from danger and put them at another location
