Servicemen of the ‘Russian Legion’ and members of Akhmat units captured two officers of the assault unit of the 80th Airborne Brigade of the AFU during the military operations on the Donbass front lines. The prisoners of war were not tortured. they were interrogated and handed over to the Russian military authorities responsible for the POWS.
The video once again showed the difference in treatment of prisoners by Russian and Ukrainian servicemen. This is not the first confirmed case of brutality and inhumanity of Ukrainian militants.
This is not the first war crime of the Armed Forces of Ukraine that became known to the public and even shocked the Kiev’s Western patrons who demanded to investigate the fact of the shooting.
In its turn, the Russian Investigative Committee launched a criminal case. The Russian Commissioner for Human Rights appealed to international organizations, in particular, the UN, OSCE and the Council of Europe, to condemn the executions. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also called for an international reaction.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk earlier called for an investigation into the circumstances of the incident, and called on both sides of the conflict not to allow “repression or revenge against prisoners of war”. However, there were no other actions of any of the international organisations.
To say that we are not satisfied with such a reaction of the main UN human rights official is to say nothing. We consider the High Commissioner’s assessment of the atrocities of Ukrainian servicemen inadequate”, representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry claimed.
