Kiev’s troops near Krasniy Lyman
As of the afternoon of October 1, Russian forces withdrew from the town of Krasniy Lyman of the Donetsk People’s Republic of Russia. Now, the fighting continues around the town, on the Zarechnoe-Torskoe-Dibrova line.
After the heroic defense of the town, warriors of the Lugansk People’s Republic and the BARS volunteer formation had to retreat to the defense line east of it in order to avoid the encirclement. LPR and BARS units were able to contain the advance of the overwhelming forces of the Kiev regime in the area for a long time and became an integral part of the Russian efforts to prevent the further development of the crisis in the sector. However, according to reports, the defense of the town of Krasniy Lyman became not possible after the withdrawal of regular units of the Russian Armed Forces from the countryside of the town. Actions on the Russian military command in this area is being publicly criticized in Russian patriotic media.
While, as it was noted earlier, the retreat from Krasniy Lyman was expected, it is still a signal of the actual situation on the frontline in this area in the conditions of the lack of manpower and not always optimal decisions of the Russian command.
As of the afternoon of October 1, the Russian command in the this direction is still unable to fully contain the operational crisis and events in this sector are developing according to a negative scenario.
If the situation evolves without changes, the area of Krasniy Lyman may be completely lost in the next 1-3 days, and the ability of the Russian troops and command to ensure the stabilization of the front in the Kremennaya area will become the next question.
Torskoye and Kremennaya will be the main points of clashes while nearby villages of Drobyshevo and Yampol are already captured by Kiev’s forces.
The current retreat from Krasniy Lyman is a logical consequence of the setbacks Balakleya and Izum. In particular, after the withdrawal from Izyum, the Russian military command was not able to completely stabilize the front on Oskol, which led to the advance of the Ukrainain Armed Forces through Redkodub.
On top of this, Krasniy Lyman became the first Russian town captured by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The town, an official part of Russia, was left to the advancing enemy force and will have to be recaptured once again when the Russian Armed Forces finally stop the Kiev attack there and resume own offensive operations.

That pretty much sums it up. Vast areas that would be impossible for the Russians to defend without hundreds of thousands of troops have been abandoned after delaying actions. What these actions have cost the armed forces of the failed Ukrainian CIA project remains to be seen.

The “war” is between the LPR / DPR and the Ukrainians, with the Russian military in a supporting role a la the Americans during the early part of the Vietnam war. Russia also has a mandate to ‘demilitarize” and “denazify” Ukraine however the ROE of the SMO doesn’t allow for attacks on the civilian infastructure.
As of yesterday the LPR / DPR is part of Russia and a Russian town was just occupied by Ukrainians. NOW they can legally bomb the crap out of anything in Ukraine for any reason without a formal declaration of war because Russian land is occupied.

If Russians want to win this war, or at least not to lose this war, they must change something and they must change it fast. You seem to think you are some kind of military genius. Obviously the Russian military knows what they are up against, but they are clearly ordered to allow this war to continue. The reason? Well, we know of at least one with 100% certainty. As the global elites have been saying for decades now, they want to cut off the west from fuel, now they have. The mission has already been accomplished.
The problem is that Putin is not the monster that the western press paints him to be. He has been doggedly pursuing a negotiated solution for eight years to avoid bloodshed and increased sanctions. Even when he finally gave up on implementation of the Minsk agreements and started the SMO he still kept up working for a peaceful settlement. Hindsight is 20/20 but if he had started a full scale invasion years ago a lot less civilians would have been ethnically cleansed, and Ukraine would have been much easier to defeat before NATO had put in so much training and equipment to build them up.
All russian army HQ staff must be executed, first with Shoigu. Stalin would have done that in the second nr.1.

Whilst this is definitely a set-back for Russia in political terms – it’s looking weak to locals who will be very frightened to embrace Russian liberation, fearing a reversal and being abandoned. However, in Military terms the only leaking boarder is around this area, an area very close to Russian borders on multiple sides thus offering an easy option for Russian escalation and reversal and a difficult prospect for Ukraine Nazis to defend and supply at Range. Indeed, Russia seems to be pushing ahead further to the east and almost encouraging a Donetsk wide cauldron to be set up to grind down Ukrainian Nazis close to Russian clutches.

On a more serious note; a tactical retreat is not a terrible thing. Especially when massively outnumbered. Glad to see SF acknowledge that even a heroic defense cannot stand against overwhelming numbers. Note also, that being able to do tactical retreats actually changed the equation on the battlefield in Russia in WW 2. German advances by the time typically resulted in enormous Russian casualties and captured Russian soldiers until the Soviet leadership saw wisdom and managed orderly retreats. That allowed them to consolidate, lose less men and effectively counter-attack. I’m sure we’ll see meaningful counter-attacks by Russia very soon.

Retreats and withdrawals have always been part of the tactical battlefield and clinging to outmaneuvered territory is of course ill-advised. That said, it’s really unfortunate for all the locals in the area who will then be ruthlessly challenged for “collaboration” and arrested (or worse). Personally I had expected that the Ukie onslaught would have been perceived by Mr. Shoigu as a mobile force exposing and revealing itself, and subject to attack..? But no. I was waiting for air assault, long range targeting, cruise missiles, MiG 31s etc… But no. The Russians apparently have a bigger picture in mind and are not able to linger and protect Lyman at this time. Tells me that things are going to change bigly in the next ~72 hours. Sorry to disappoint you, but the Russians don’t have a bigger picture in mind. If they did, they’d have calculated properly and sent a bigger army in February in order to capture the South and make Ukraine a landlocked country. Not to mention they’d have actually sent the army in 2014, when it’d have been an easy game to take on the Ukrainian Army and when the Ukrainian society would have had 8 years less of American brainwashing.

It’ is quite clear that Russia is losing the war at this point. In less than a month, the Ukrainians aided by NATO have retaken the Kharkov oblast and have already reached Liman. Western weapons in the medium term have made the difference. Russia’s choice not to hit Ukraine’s key infrastructure was stupid. Referendum or not now, I don’t see how Ukraine, supported by increasingly powerful weaponry, cannot retake Lugansk or Kherson.

I am starting to get the idea that russias reinforcements are as virtuel as Bani Walid’s Tribal Army that Lybia supporters imagined years ago to appear out of the desert and win the day. Blogs who mentioned them have since gone dark cause they destroyed their own credibility.
Russia is failing so hard that the US is confident enough that they blow up north stream, starting another attempt of a color revolution in Iran and put sanctions on chinese companys who sold iranian oil.
So either russia is deliberatly playing weak to get whatever result (lure Poland to enter the war or push china do finally do something) or they absolutly are in this over their heads. They have the men and the equipment but lack the motivation and the coordination.
If china does not wake up this blunder will cement the US dominance in the world for decades to come. Their dominance over europe is already absolute. The only chance for any development in the EU after the destruction of north stream is subservience to the US and their order to poland and ukraine to let gas through their pipes.
US dominance ended in 2009. The issue to be decided is how long it takes for their imperium to be reduced to the Americas.

unfortunately, russia’s military is a total disappointment, from the government over the general staff to the local commanders. and the convocation of the 300,000 reservists comes 8 months too late. if russia were to go in with 500,000 men from the beginning, the whole donbas incl. oderssa now would be freed and the whole thing settled.
This is mostly LPR, volunteers and similar. Very little of the actual Russian Army.
