Russia's FSB Detains Group Of More Than 30 Hackers

On March 24th, in Russia, FSB officers thwarted a group of more than 30 hackers that sold stolen bank cards through 90 online stores.

This was announced by the Russian security service, FSB’s press office.

The group’s unlawful activity of an organized group of persons that specialized in the sale of stolen credit and debit card data of Russian and foreign financial institutions obtained as a result of lawful access to the accounts of users of the Internet and payment systems.

To carry out their criminal business, the group’s members created more than 90 online stores selling stolen data, which were later used by cybercriminals to steal money from bank accounts of citizens of various countries, including through the purchase of expensive goods on the Internet.

During searches of more than 1 million US dollars, 3 million rubles, computer equipment, including server equipment used for the operation of online stores, fake identification documents, including passports of Russian citizens, as well as firearms (rifle), certificates of law enforcement officers used in illegal activities, drugs, gold bars and precious coins were seized from 62 host addresses of members of the organized group.

As a result of the special operation, more than thirty members of the group (including citizens of Ukraine and Lithuania) were detained.

Twenty-five of them are charged under Part 2 of Art. 187 (“Illegal circulation of means of payment”) of the Criminal Code of Russia and a preventive measure in the form of detention was selected.

As a result of the measures taken, the illegal activities of the organized group were terminated, the server infrastructure used for criminal purposes was liquidated.

It was also found that some of the group’s organizers from among the Russian citizens had previously been prosecuted for similar crimes.

Separately, on the previous day, the FSB, detained two students of one of the educational institutions of the Sakhalin Region born in 2002 and 2003, involved in the propaganda of terrorism, mass killings and suicide on the Internet.

During the searches, the following were seized from the students: a sawn-off shotgun with ammunition for it, an industrial detonator, allegedly improvised explosive devices, explosives, communications equipment, and personal diaries containing information about a planned armed attack on an educational institution.

Just days earlier, the FSB detained several ISIS cells, who were planning terror attacks and gathering funds for the terrorist organization in Russia.
