Digital representation of PAK DA
Proposed long-range next generation plane being developed by the Tupolev design bureau will have a variety of functions, according to memos compiled for a meeting of the council for legislative support for the defense-industrial complex and military-technical cooperation under the Federation Council.
The plane will be capable of being configured as a bomber, command center or reconnaissance plane.
“Next generation front-line aviation planes (Sukhoi-57) are being created for addressing a wide range of tasks. So are airborne command centers at the strategic and operative levels and reconnaissance and strategic aviation planes (PAK DA),” the memos quoted by TASS say.
This follows recent remarks by the head of the Federation Council’s defense and security committee Viktor Bondarev that research and development of the next-generation plane was nearing completion. The new long-range multifunctional plane is reportedly set to replace Tupolev-22M3, Tupolev-95MS and eventually Tupolev-160.
According to reprots by Russian media, the PAK DA is slated to enter duty in 2025-2030 after testing.
Earlier, Deputy Defense Minister Yuri Borisov noted that PAK DA may make the first flight in 2025-2026 and begin to be batch-produced in 2028 or 2029.
Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov told the state-run news agency TASS on July 29 that Russia’s Sukhoi Aircraft Company has started a serial production of Su-57 fifth-generation fighter jets to the Russian Aerospace Forces. Sukhoi Aircrat Company is set to deliver 76 Su-57 fighter jets to the Russian Aerospace Forces.

Watched the video, lost 4 mins from my life, only few seconds where showing the plane doing some maneuvers you see on any airshows. The plane can fly, indeed, like any other plane. Why use F35s or other airplanes, when we can get 5 drones with cameras finding anything as well as having missiles.

A small radar signature is always going to be in the designers toolbox. Radar evading designs are nothing new go back to the British Mosquito bombers of WW2. I don’t think designers are going to go out of their way to make aircraft visible to radar but the days of stealth aircraft being ‘invisible’ and the sole method of penetrating airspace is gone for the foreseeable future.
Mosquitos evaded Radar by flying below its footprint, but it was never stealthy. The close-est anyone came to creating a true stealth design were the Horton Bros. with their Ho.229 flying wing.
Mosquitos were low signature because their structure was built out of special wood. They did n’t use usual metal for that aircraft.Except engines and avionics.

This aircraft can be optionaly manned. Regarding stealth this obviously is dead. it is better described as low visibilty. But still “stealth” aircraft reduce the distance in which it can be detected compared to non stealth aircrafts, especialy by the less developed radar systems such as NATO ones.

For large warheads, it takes a lot of energy just to get a rocket engine to lift those things tens of thousands of feet into the air. By then they have exhausted a great deal of their solid fuel. It is easier to fly the item up high, even if only into your own air space 35,000 feet or 40,000 feet. Then launch the rocket or smart bomb. Then it’s own fuel has enough to fly anywhere in the world with fuel to spare to loiter if necessary.

You show low knowledge on the subject and jump on conclusion. Creation of totally new engines takes usually 10 years. Jet was ready long before the engines! And Sukhoi wanted to sell SU-57 with old engines to the army but they have refused it. Russian army didn’t want to buy SU-57with older (1st stage engines used buy SU-35S). So they waited for the final tests of the “2nd stage engine” = totally new engine of 5th generation know also as “izdeliye 30”.
