Shvabe, a part of the Russian state-owned Rostec defense conglomerate, showcased for the first time a counter-drone laser system on the sideline of the Interpolitex-2025 exhibition, which opened its doors in Moscow on October 28.
The system can be fielded both as an stand-alone anti-drone laser, or as part of amulti-layered air defense network, according to a press release by Rostec.
The press release said that the laser system is capable of taking down several drones of various types within a single minute.
According to Rostec, the system is built around a powerful air-cooled laser with an electro-optical tracker. It utilizes batteries, and can be powered from external sources. The whole system, including the control station, is fitted into a single truck.
“Rostec constantly improves domestic UAV [unmanned aerial vehicle] countermeasure systems, creating innovative solutions. The laser complex developed by specialists of the Shvabe holding is capable of hitting several fast-moving UAVs of different types within a minute, including small FPV drones. At the same time, power lasers are safe to use near civilian infrastructure,” said Bekhan Ozdoev, industrial director of the weapons, ammunition, and special chemistry cluster of Rostec.
The TASS news agency shared video of footage of the system, which also appeared to be equipped with multiple radar arrays.
In June, Russia announced that it had conducted large-scale tests of new laser-based systems designed to counter drones. Eight different systems, from compact mobile units to powerful stationary ones, were tested against various types of drones. First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov attended the tests.
The Russian Ministry of Defense said at the time that tests confirmed the effectiveness of the systems, revealing that they were developed by Rostec and Rosatom state corporations. It also stated that the system had been validated for use in protecting critical infrastructure from drone attacks.
The Russian military began to field anti-drone laser systems in the special military operation zone in Ukraine later on without an official announcement.
In fact, on October 28, video footage showing one such Russian system taking down four Ukrainian drones surfaced online.
Laser-based air defense systems offer high accuracy, speed, low cost per engagement, and reduced reliance on ammunition. Because of these features, they are considered very suitable for countering drones.

the russians fell for them allready twice with the bolshevics and the moskau oligarchs. it seems to still work.
yes these anti drone laser systems are impressive and if produced and used in numers will certainly mitigate the advantage the ukranian side had earlier with their drones and nlaw and javalin missiles.
right now as it stands the russian side has adapted to the methods and tactics the ukranians used and had success with in the early days of the conflict.
so thats now the second of the systems shown years ago that finally seem to come into existance many years after they had pretended to have allready done them. is this the real peresvet? it looks different so they basically invented something they pretended allready existed.
