Satellite Image: Russian-made S-300 System Spotted In United States

Support SouthFront

A satellite image supposedly showing a Russian-made S-300PT air defense system in the United States has gained a wide attention in the social and mainstream media.

The picture was originally released by @border9999 in Twitter, but then it was deleted. Despite this, it’s copies are available online.

The S-300 system entered service with the Soviet military in 1979. In the following years, S-300 systems were delivered to various states, including China, Algeria, Venezuela, Iran, Vietnam, Ukraine, Bulgaria and Slovakia.

In its report on the issue, RT noted that according to some reports, the US has retained at least one S-300 installation since the early 1990s, which it allegedly acquired from Belarus amidst the turmoil following the USSR’s collapse.

“The New York Times reported back in 1994 that the Pentagon’s chief military intelligence bought “components” of the S-300 in a secretive deal in order to study the system. The complexes reportedly came without electronics and radar equipment.”

Hardly a surprise. The US acquired examples of probably every Soviet era weapons system in the aftermath of the breakups of the Warsaw Pact and the USSR.

Martin Petrovski

Not really. Very little was actually aquiered by the US. And the things they did get usually had their important bits removed. The S300P from Belarus is a good example.

Bill Wilson

The US DoD didn’t buy anything that their experts wanted to study if the important bits were removed.

Wegan

That doesn’t matter. The hardware is simple and not out of reach. This was 1980s tech. It’s the software and the system you build around it that matters. The S-300 is insanely customizable (software and hardware). Had they asked Russia they would have sold them some. Russia does not really care. As you probably know they sold it to NATO member Greece.

Martin Petrovski

They did not know what they will get

Toronto Tonto

And you were in charge of purchasing right .

Martin Petrovski

How is this news? The US bought a Belorussian S-300P in the early 1990’s. Tho it did not posses any electornics.

d'Artagnan

These came from the Greeks and were sold in 1990’s. Ukraine has also helped the US and Israel with design and blueprints. However, these are like an old Moskvitch car and basically useless as the current S-300 are totally different.

Pave Way IV

“How is this news?”

Cheesey yellow labels = ISI ImageSat Intl.(Israel) sat imagery = something published for propaganda purposes = US definition of news. I’m not questioning the motives of either Twitter poster, but that image was left somewhere for them to ‘find’.

Besides, the US military certainly wouldn’t object to our Israeli pals publishing imagery of our military installations or ‘interesting’ equipment acquisitions, would they? That said, these are pieces of a pretty old SA-10 system. The 30N6 Tombstone radars (if that’s what they are) are late 80’s vintage – a couple of generations earlier than what Venezuela is using. And whatever kind of gutted S-300P the US got from Belarus back in the 90’s is irrelevant, considering that we probably had a Porky-supplied Ukrainian S-300PS/PMU shipped to the US before the gold got here. Along with plenty of knowledgeable Ukrainian S-300 techs and repair manuals. It doesn’t have to be the latest and greatest model – the US will only attack smaller, weaker, less capable countries with old air defense systems.

Martin Petrovski

Ukraine dosent have S 300PM’s from what i can dig up.

Pave Way IV

The ‘PMU’ export version was a mistake on my part, I meant the non-export ‘PM’ but you may be right about them not having any. They originally had S-300PS/PT and I think S-300V1s. UkroBoronProm had a division dedicated to maintenance and upgrades of their S-300s and (at times) mentioned ‘PM’ maintenance and upgrade capability for what I assumed was their potential foreign market.

The argument/confusion is if a S-300PM was just a better truck chassis, a newer radar and some system upgrades, or if the basic fire control system was substantially different (newer) than that used PS/PT. Ukraine supposedly had some pieces of the PMs (30N6-1 radars, Big Birds), but didn’t have full PM delivered as new systems – as far as anyone knows. Could UkroBoronProm ‘make’ a PM by upgrading a PT and adding better radars? I guess that’s the argument among people that follow this equipment – I don’t know. The PM1/PMU1 were a lot more advanced of course, and Ukraine didn’t acquire any, nor could they somehow upgrade to one.

Concrete Mike

I wonder what.other intel “gems” ISI is easter egging, i agree with your assesment.

Something is cooking doc! Is it something new or something old? We shall see soon enough.

Have a good day sir

Wolfgang Wolf

or our jewish friends from Ukraine donated this for good pocket money, for sure….

AM Hants

Wonder if it was part of a gift selection. S-300s for the US, together with packed chemical weapon cannisters, from Ukraine to Syria, via the US.

Here are one of the chemical weapon cannisters, sent with love from Ukraine to Syria, but, for some reason, written in English.

https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/25bf6019f988b632f28296f8840d883c4021f0a9abf092f9f45f5c69207ce381.jpg

Concrete Mike

hmm who writes in english yet uses metric system?

I have never been in armed forces, are both units of measure used? Are all NATO gear in english and metric? is there a convention that is foĺowed for the labelling of these, like dangerous goods?

AM Hants

Good questions. Even in the UK, they mainly use metric, and forget or try to erase imperial units.

No doubt somebody will come up with the correct answer.

Sinbad2

Most of the world now uses metric, only the US still uses the old imperial measures exclusively. But even the US is moving to metric in some things, calibre of bullets as an example, 308 is now7.62mm and a 357 is a 9mm.

English speaking countries that have moved to metric are Australia New Zealand South Africa Jamaica Kenya. The UK and Canada do both.

BUT I buy Chinese and Japanese stuff, and they write in English for their English speaking customers.

dontlietome

Agreed, the UKIES are certainly the first source to whom the Septics would come calling for Russian technical stuff………………

Toronto Tonto

You talking about Russian trash ???

PK

The fact that is even reported indicates that it is a non issue especially coming right after reported completion of Syrian military s-300 training. This same thing was reported about a year or two years ago involving Ukraine.

Promitheas Apollonious

so 30 years ago or 20 americans got an obsolete S300system so what? they also got some russian aircraft much good that it did to them or will do to them. What is surprising me is the waste of pixel space here presenting it as news or something of relevance that we want to know.

SF there are real important news that need to be reported and you are failing to do so but instead much of what you reporting is irrelevant to what is going on or old news. My advice is take a look what is going on in Mediterranean and the balkan area and how they connecting with what happens to ME and do some journalism for a change, or you lose the few of us who been left supporting you. If you need help is been offered to you but you chose to ignore it.

John Whitehot

you already know that most americans live in trailerhoods and ghettos.

this crap is aimed at those sections of population.

i mean, couple months ago some genius posted a manipulated video on youtube with an ufo landed on a US carrier, and dozen of people started believing that the US is building ufos.

Promitheas Apollonious

yes I know, the predicament of the americans.

viktor ziv

Hey mate, indeed I agree with You, and by doing so it reminded me of Metallica song, ohhh yeah, ohhh yeah so fucking what! Cheers mate. I really hope americans will wake up soon. I really know dear and kind, hard working dudes there.

Promitheas Apollonious

americans waking up…….. unfortunately they are 30 years too late. You know the expression too little too late and what happens when you pass the no return line? that is where americans have been since then.

d'Artagnan

These antiquated S-300 were sold to the devious Greeks by the drunkard CIA stool pigeon Boris Yeltsin in the 1990’s and some of the blueprints have also been supplied to the US by Ukraine. The Israelis and US have had access to them for more than two decades and NATO has been practicing SEAD exercises from Greek bases and now in US. However, the more dangerous precedent will be the sale of more modern S-400 to the most untrustworthy Turks, who will definitely hand over the systems to their US masters. Russia should think carefully who its arms. These aging compromised S-300 will have no impact though and most Russian and Iranian modernized systems have had new radar frequencies and anti-jamming systems.

RichardD

This type of comment isn’t surprising coming from a Russia basher like you. You and the rest of the hasbara trolls have been droning on for months about how Russia sells out it’s allies to partition Syria. According to your proprietary, super secret, confidential “sources on the ground”. Also known as BS. When in reality they were implementing the DMZ agreement and hitting the Jew world order terrorists every day. And now that the front lines are moving forward in Idlib, Hama, and Latakia you’re avoiding the topic. As the deconfliction and clearing process continues.

Promitheas Apollonious

retard kindly go fuck yourself. You too stupid to understand what is happening on the ground and to blind to see. As for comparing me with the ones you mention, I understand also your low level mentality so I will not respond to that.

RichardD

Where are your bs “sources” now about Russia selling out it’s allies to partition Syria? You’re the intellectual coward who runs from a debate about the disinfo and Russia bashing that you constantly pollute these threads with that you’re peddling. I wouldn’t insult a retard by calling you a retard.

Promitheas Apollonious

in politics things change stupido that dont mean the russians did not went into partnership with the ones they did for the reasons they did and still are. Also it does not alter what they do now because they themselves come under attack with what they did what they been doing it until couple of weeks ago.

As for debating a single cell as yourself ………… nothing to debate with one who pretend he is asleep to reality and one track mind follower in search for a leader.

RichardD

You’re talking out of both sides of your mouth. Russia was hitting the terrorists every day before the recent SAA advances just like they are now. Nothing has changed, other than your damage control about face.

You’re point was that Russia sold out Syria to it’s enemies. When I brought to your attention that Russia was implementing the DMZ agreement, just like all of the other deconfliction agreements before it as part of the territory recovery process. And provided multiple examples of the DMZ agreement implementation.

You ignored it because it disproved your partition allegations. And to avoid debating the issue, you had one of your two year old moments little boy.

Promitheas Apollonious

my point was about the russian and turkish love affair and still is. How you chose to translate it in your single cell that is your own problem and limitation to think outside the box you are in. Now stop pestering me, I will not come down to your level again. To me you not worth the effort and the energy. Believe what you like and by the way trying to label people shows the stage of retardation you are.

RichardD

Your point, that you’re now trying to back peddle from, was partition caused by Russian betrayal. My point was and is that there was no betrayal or partition. Because Russia was and is implementing their part of the DMZ agreement. And that there was an expiration time frame tolling on the Turk’s end of the deal that would be met with a resumption of clearing operations on an as needed basis.

Promitheas Apollonious

my point is you are a jerk off and you dont worth the effort stupido so stop bothering me and go jerk off somewhere else.

RichardD

Another adolescence moment delinquent.

Both Syria and Iran have S-300 systems and analogs of. (Venezuela too)

AM Hants

Up-to-date versions, closer to the S-400, rather than the S-300 of the 80s.

AM Hants

Cute family tree. Thanks for posting. Interesting, how few of them are available for export, fortunately.

Wegan

Just PR to say they have a copy of the Russian defence systems. This impresses the masses that do not understand how air defence systems work. It’s a very much needed PR to keep the illusion of supremacy. In reality the US is not ready for war. Even in country that doesn’t have refrigerators like Afghanistan they could not win. They are just bluffing. Once the Tide goes out, everyone will see they were swimming naked (that if they didn’t drown already)

You can call me Al

I don’t know, it actually sounds credible, but either way it is just a few tubes, without the electronics and radar equipment.

John Whitehot

ahh the tubes with no electronics make for great chimneys.

you could also cut them longitudinally, and make astounding drainpipes.

just two examples of better uses for such objects.

You can call me Al

Hahaha, good plan.

You can call me Al

HOW DID you get 5 upticks and me only one ?…. this is wassist.

John Whitehot

wait wait

^ ^ ^ ^ ^

hope this helps somehow xD

You can call me Al

hehehe, lol. Thanks, I feel better now.

AM Hants

You make them sound like something from Anne Summers, without the batteries. There again, no doubt based on the same principle, just different strength.

US stocks plunge as China strikes back at US with higher tariffs.

PK

not sure what US is trying to do. let’s face it. China has the largest economy in the world with 1.4 billion people and enormous manufacturing and domestic market. China produces about 100 times more engineers and scientists annually than US.

John Whitehot

gosh, darn. the bible didn’t talk about china. they can’t be that serious.

Rob

The Chinese tariff’s have effected the US economy so quickly. Boeing fell 3.4pc, Apple, down 5.3pc, Caterpillar, down 4.3pc, Deere & Company, down 5.2pc, General Motors, down 3.2pc and Starbucks, down 2.2pc.

Rob

That’s correct.

Sinbad2

“not sure what US is trying to do.”

They don’t know either, they are having a panic attack, and so revert to their first instincts, which is to kill and destroy.

Kell McBanned

Whats considered an engineer in China is entirely different from what is an Engineer in the West, a building janitor could be considered an Engineer in China the only difference being the janitor actualy does some useful work unlike the rest of them.

PK

Referring to college graduates.

Smaug

Red Herring fallacy detected

John Whitehot

the US acquired soviet weapons systems since the end of ww2.

history has shown how much good they brought to the overall performance of US forces, at least when it comes to fighting enemies that are willing to shoot back.

Soviets and Russians acquired US weapon systems too, although they have always been clever enough not to publish pics about them (if I have to explain the reason to this, you are on the wrong site).

The pantomime they did with publishing and then redacting the pictures is just a ridiculous attempt at convincing someone that they can counter these systems.

Conversely, those knowing “how the pentagon works”, have received an hint that the opposite is quite true – in that they are unable to counter these systems.

White_American_Patriot

Counter what, the failure to shoot down IAF planes in over 1,000 strikes in Syria?

LOL

Anrma

You are a failure you braindead degenerate.

John Whitehot

1000 strikes and not a centimeter of the war has changed.

keep humiliating yourself, and keep rooting for the ones who consider you human cattle.

d'Artagnan

To be accurate sans your usual hyperbole, one Zionist F-16I was shot down and an F-35 suffered a “bird strike”.

White_American_Patriot

So 1 F16 in 1000 sorties

Less than 1 percent interception rate

LOL

Concrete Mike

Lebanon said they dont want the f35, they are looking at acquiring a squadron of seagulls, as their effectiveness against f35 is 100%. I say great move and dont forget next time your at your favorite burger joint, make sure to toss a fry out to our brave seagull.friends.

Concrete Mike

hey look who crawled out of his h wolhe!!

White_American_Patriot

We’ve known everything about these systems for over 20 years lol

It’s called NSA, Russians and Chinese were the first to be hacked

Anrma

You know to suck Bibi’s anus for over 20 years lol. Brown_Israeli_Parasite.

Smaug

There are certainly much newer models out there, no way to tell which one this is. Although if we did acquire major componates of modern rockets that would have been quite a coup. The type of thing that people will write a book about in 20 years or so.

White_American_Patriot

We certainly obtained all relevant data/components

Look up what the NSA was capable of at the time

AM Hants

So how come you are generations behind both China and Russia, with regards your weapons and systems?

Smaug

Because we actually read the articles we comment on.

AM Hants

Doesn’t keep you abreast of the most up-to-date weapons and systems, though, now does it?

White_American_Patriot

The F22 was made a decade ago and to this day can easily trounce any opposition. The SU57 is a fake cardboard plane that doesn’t even have engines good enough to fly LOL

That S400 trash got whooped by old F16’s in Syria

AM Hants

Remind me, but, how does the US manage to make it into space? Is it courtesy of the Russian engines, they cannot match?

White_American_Patriot

Russian copied every missile technology invented by the US lol, they literally stole the designs of the atomic bomb and every other missile

AM Hants

Yep, that is why the Soviets were first to make it into Space and not forgetting, 1947 and ‘Operation Paperclip’. Now just who was given sanctuary and safe passage and why?

White_American_Patriot

Russia already lost to the US, the Soviets no longer exist and Russia lost massive amounts of land and power

The Cuban Missile crisis had them shitting their pants.

AM Hants

In your dreams. You mistake the Russian Empire/Russian Federation with the Soviet Union. Remember, the Bolsheviks overthrew the Russian Empire in 1917 and when the Georgian Stalin, took over from Lenin, he launched the Soviet Union, made up of 15 member states. It fell in 1991.

Now remind me how old is Russia, including all her history, whether it be Russia, Russian Federation, part of the Soviet Union or the Russian Federation?

How old is the United States of America, from when she was first discovered?

………………

Brief History of Russia

Ancient Russia (800-1200)

The Mongols and the Emergence of Moscow (1237-1613)

The Romanovs (1613-1825)

The Path to Revolution (1825-1920)

The Soviet Era (1920-1991)

Post-Communism to the Present

The early history of Russia, like those of many countries, is one of migrating peoples and ancient kingdoms. In fact, early Russia was not exactly “Russia,” but a collection of cities that gradually coalesced into an empire. I n the early part of the ninth century, as part of the same great movement that brough the Danes to England and the Norsemen to Western Europe, a Scandanavian people known as the Varangians crossed the Baltic Sea and landed in Eastern Europe. The leader of the Varangians was the semilegendary warrior Rurik, who led his people in 862 to the city of Novgorod on the Volkhov River. Whether Rurik took the city by force or was invited to rule there, he certainly invested the city. From Novgorod, Rurik’s successor Oleg extended the power of the city southward. In 882, he gained control of Kiev, a Slavic city that had arisen along the Dnepr River around the 5th century. Oleg’s attainment of rule over Kiev marked the first establishment of a unified, dynastic state in the region. Kiev became the center of a trade route between Scandinavia and Constantinople, and Kievan Rus’, as the empire came to be known, flourished for the next three hundred years.

Text Box: By 989, Oleg’s great-grandson Vladimir I was ruler of a kingdom that extended to as far south as the Black Sea, the Caucasus Mountains, and the lower reaches of the Volga River. Having decided to establish a state religion, Vladimir carefully considered a number of available faiths and decided upon Greek Orthodoxy, thus allying himself with Constantinople and the West. It is said that Vladimir decided against Islam partly because of his belief that his people could not live under a religion that prohibits hard liquor. Vladimir was succeeded by Yaroslav the Wise, whose reign marked the apogee of Kievan Rus’. Yaroslav codified laws, made shrewd alliances with other states, and encouraged the arts. Unfortunately, he decided in the end to act like Lear, dividing his kingdom among his children and bidding them to cooperate and flourish. Of course, they did nothing of the sort.

Within a few decades of Yaroslav’s death (in 1054), Kievan Rus’ had broken up into regional power centers. Internal divisions were made worse by the depradations of the invading Cumans (better known as the Kipchaks). It was during this time (in 1147 to be exact) that Yuri Dolgorukiy, one of the regional princes, held a feast at his hunting lodge atop a hill overlooking the confluence of the Moskva and Neglina Rivers. A chronicler recorded the party, thus providing us with the earliest mention of Moscow, the small settlement that would soon become the pre-eminent city in Russia.

White_American_Patriot

The Soviet Union was Russia, otherwise Russia wasn’t involved in WW2

Thanks for playing

AM Hants

LOL. How was the Soviet Union Russia, when there were 15 member states and the Bolsheviks, who are still trying to run things, overthrew the Russian Empire?

Remember, Stalin was Georgian, Krushchev was Ukrainian and how many of the leaders of the Soviet Union, actually came from Russia?

https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/a22f5706995b448f222110da2826cef6d66de99759c1eaf36ff2c64c39ab60d6.jpg

Who has been after the natural resources of Russia, for centuries? They thought they were in there grasp, under the Yeltsin days, but, then along came Vladimir Putin.

Who trained Lenin? Where was he hanging out, before the Bolsheviks overthrew the Russian Empire? Laying the groundwork for the Soviet Union.

Josef Stalin. … Georgian Georgy Malenkov. … Russian Nikita Khrushchev. … Ukrainian Leonid Brezhnev. … Ukrainian Yuri Andropov. … Russian Konstantin Chernenko. … Russian Mikhail Gorbachev… Russian

Weren’t all leaders of the Soviet Union, primarily leaders of the Soviet Bolshevik Communist Party?

White_American_Patriot

The Soviet Union was Russia, it was just stronger. Same Russian people lived in the Soviet Union and the most defining era of Russia was under the Soviets, they lost to America.

AM Hants

LOL.

Russian Empire was overthrown by the Bolsheviks. Soviet Union, 15 member states.

How much territory did Ukraine gain, during the Soviet Union period?

Russia, proud and dignified people, never played the ‘professional victim’ card, just brushed themselves down, came out of the Yeltsin Era and made friends and partners with the emerging economies.

How many of the other 14 member states of the Soviet Union, went legging it to the Soviet EU, taking their begging bowls and ‘professional victim’ status, to the EU, which was run on exactly the same ideology as the old Soviet Union. No doubt, because the Kinder Fuehrer and the Kids of the Bolshevik Elite, were now presiding over the EU and not forgetting the crowd that set up the same ideology in all the ‘5 Eye’ nations, courtesy of ‘Operation Paperclip’, coming to their parents/grandparents rescue.

AM Hants

How did it have Russia messing their pants? Remember Kennedy’s reaction, when they placed missiles in Turkey and the Soviet Union replied with placing missiles in Cuba? By the way, it was an Ukrainian, who led the Soviet Union, during the Cuban Missile Crisis, in case you have forgotten.

;…Disaster was avoided when the U.S. agreed to Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev’s (1894-1971) offer to remove the Cuban missiles in exchange for the U.S. promising not to invade Cuba. Kennedy also secretly agreed to remove U.S. missiles from Turkey…’ https://www.history.com/topics/cold-war/cuban-missile-crisis

White_American_Patriot

Turkey was only one location, US nuclear weapons remained in Europe and were removed from Cuba, those are the stone cold facts

Smaug

We also have old abandoned MiGs of all types that were abandoned or “acquired” during the fall of communism. It would not be surprising at all if we have a complete version of an older model to base our observations on. If major componates of newer rockets have been captured, that would have been quite the intelligence coup, though

AM Hants

How long have you had them? Sadly, if the Universities bothered training, and providing skill sets, rather than ‘puppy therapy’ and nursing ‘snowflake tears’, the US would be producing military jets, similar to the Mig 35 or SU 35, rather than the impotent F35.

Smaug

If you had any idea what you were talking about you’d stop making yourself look like an idiot.

AM Hants

In your mind, as pot, kettle, black, so comes to mind.

AM Hants

Didn’t they take the old Greek S-300, same era, to pieces and still have no idea how it worked?

Guess Washington DC missed out on the fall of the Soviet Union and how the Russian Federation emerged, with 14 other member states, but, never looked backwards.

In the meantime, Russia got hold of their cruise missiles, completely intact, when Trump sent the Tomahawks to Syria, plus, a lot more besides. No doubt, Russia has made good use of the intelligence and also worked out the weak points.

Real Anti-Racist Action

The United States has more then one copy in the US. They have had these since the 90’s. Old news. Israel was training against these in the NM AZ region back about 10 or so years ago. Even Prince Harry of the UK-empire knows this. You see, it is no bluff when Israel and the US says they can easily defeat any and all forms of S-300. 1980’s tech amounts to nothing against F-22’s and other craft. The US will be getting important parts of S-400 within three years as NATO receives them soon in the Turkish theater. Parts will be on loan to the US soon so the S-400 will also become vulnerable. Russia deliberately sell’s this stuff to compromised foes, oh I mean “allies” lol. If Russia sold S-400’s instead to Iran and Syria, they would never betray Russia the way many others already have. Israel was training both plane pilots and helicopters to survive encounters with S-300’s in the US back in the Obama years in the NM AZ region. Must be thousands of Americans that have known this since the very training was taking place. Israel is going to do great damage later this year, and they will succeed because Syria and Iran both have dud’s for anti-air. S-300 today is like a musket ball today. Great weapon in their own time. But of little true value in the 21st century. Oh hey Russia, never bring twentieth century technology into a 21st century fight.

Sinbad2

So the yanks have them, but still can’t copy them? China copied them, so I guess the Chinese are a lot smarter than the Americans.

John

I am wondering if this is part of what they used to develop the F-35.
