On April 2, Israel’s ImageSat International released new satellite images of al-Dabaa air base in Syria’s Homs which was hit by a series of Israeli airstrikes in the early morning.
The images revealed that the air base, where Iranian military personnel and fighters from Lebanon’s Hezbollah are known to be deployed, had received multiple impacts. One of the base’s hardened aircraft shelters was destroyed, along with a drone communication/control station and a separate communication vehicle.
ImageSat said that the main target of the attack was likely drone capabilities of Hezbollah, or Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Two Western intelligence sources told the Reuters news agency that the Israeli airstrikes also targeted the T4 air base in Homs. However, this is yet to be confirmed. Both the IRGC and Hezbolalh are said to maintain a presence there.
Citing a military source, the state-run Syrian Arab News Agency reported that five service members were wounded as a result of the attack.
The attack came after two waves of Israeli airstrikes hit positions in the Syrian capital, Damascus, and its outskirts on March 30 and 31. Two military advisers of the IRGC were killed in the second wave. Iran said that the attack will not go without a response.
The Israeli escalation against Syria will most likely be met with a response from Damascus and its allies. A confrontation between the two sides could break out soon.
