I think the Su 57 has been displayed at air shows, so its existance or general profile are hardly a secrets. What impresses me the most about this deployment is that it shows the functioning of an imaginative and creative miltary mechine capable of unexpected thinking. Also it must have an insirational effect on the SAA and Syrian Air Force. What would interest me is to know if the new engines are fitted to these planes. May be a bit soon for that.
Well they want to test them, pretty sure they evenconsider to fly near enemy territorie for testing radar, stealth and many other things even new rockets, bombs and mg. I dont think they want to test it until the new engines are ready, so many things have to be testet too, so if another engine is given the OK to fly with it why not. F22 is already in service for more then 10 years dude, while Su57 is still in testing period (I do not think that are more then 10 flyable). The moujiks send it to Syria forpropaganda reasons; also in order to test some of it’s weapons in a “combat” environment i.e. to test it’s air to surface capabilities and maybe a “new” engine (it’s well know that this plane has an underpowered engine and the new engine is still and still and still under development). Also the radar switching from air to land operation in combat could be test it. I also suspect that they try to show to the indians the progress made (and some deliveries of intelligent weapons will be a good move) so that those indians will start pouring some money again in it’s development and who knows; maybe other closer to Syria ;) . Meanwhile the F22 is already a proven air-to-air platform and also (from 3 years) a good air-to-land platform. So NO, it’s not going to be used as a deterrent because the muricans will destroyed it if the situation will get hot (which also will be a propaganda blow for putin cronies).

You mean it’s an expensive flying piece of garbage cost way too much to fly and is not invisible to radar as professed. US blew it on the F22, Su-57 has been around for a decade ,and it delivers where the F-22 fails,the cost of maintenance for the F-22 makes it prohibitive to fly.
Design freeze for F22 was over 15 years ago. Introduction started in 2005 and production ran till 2011. Ever heard of Moore’s Law with respect to CPU performance? Processing power has multiplied by 2^10 say 10^3 by now. Also that performance is achieved at much lower cost. Too complex too early comes at a horrible price tag as Concorde demonstrated and the F22 at some 350 million US$ a piece too. The production was scaled down from 750 to 187 of which only about 130 are with operational line squadrons. The SU-57 now in Syria will most probably not have the new engine given its recent first flight. Avionics suite testing will probably be an objective alongside with operational experience. Looks that Russian air force is only allowed aircraft at reasonable price/performance. That may result is getting a comparable aircraft much later indeed but also at a fraction of the cost.
Do they need new engines in this role? It’s not like they are going to be chasing down F22’s, even with the old engines, they are much faster than any of the axis powers aircraft.
