Turkey is developing its drilling activities in the exclusive economic zone of Cyprus.
Israel’s ISI released satellite images showing a second drill ship, the Yavuz. It was observed on the other side relative to the first ship, the Fatih. Both ships are located in some distance from the search blocks officially launched by the government of the Republic of Cyprus.
Both ships are are accompanied by warships of the Turkish Navy.
On July 15th, the European Union’s foreign ministers decided to impose sanctions on Turkey over its drilling activities within the territorial waters of the Republic of Cyprus. The EU maintains that those activities are illegal. Ankara’s stance that it works within the economic zone of the self-proclaimed Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Turkey is the only state that recognized its independence.
