Saudi Arabia’s crown prince said Iran supplying rockets to militias in Yemen is an act of “direct military aggression”, could be considered an act of war.
Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s comments were published after Saudi Arabia intercepted a ballistic missile north-east of Riyadh on November 5, launched by the Iran-allied Houthi militia which controls large parts of neighboring Yemen.
The supply of rockets to the Iran-allied rebel Houthi movement could “be considered an act of war against the Kingdom,” state news agency SPA on November 7 quoted Prince as saying in a call with British Foreign Minister Boris Johnson.
In reaction to the missile, Saudi Arabia would temporarily close all Yemeni ground, air and sea ports while investigating how the missiles were smuggled in. Yemen’s national airline, Yemenia, subsequently cancelled all flights to the country.
Iran also called some attention in regards to the 2015 nuclear agreement. The Jerusalem Post claims that Iran may not be fulfilling the agreement, citing officials continuing to disagree over whether Tehran is in compliance with the accord.
Despite US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Joseph Dunford and US Defense Secretary James Mattis saying that Iran is adhering to its obligations, US National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster has accused the Islamic Republic of directly contravening the deal. The Iranians are “not just walking up to the line on the agreement,” he asserted, “they’re crossing the line at times.” Likewise, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley recent contended that Trump “has grounds” to declare that Iran is not complying with the accord.
According to the publication, Tehran has crossed that line twice, including surpassing the designated limit on heavy water and developing of advanced centrifuges. These violations have been downplayed by the experts.
Iran’s continued development of intercontinental ballistic missiles has also generated concern. While the 2015 nuclear deal did not place restrictions on the program, UN resolution 2231 requires Tehran to grant full access to IAEA inspectors and discourages Iran from advancing its ballistic missile technology. Iranian ballistic missile development had been prohibited in UN Security Council resolution 1929, but Tehran pushed hard to rescind the ban and the Obama administration relented, softening the language in UN Security Council resolution 2231, which replaced resolution 1929.
The new resolution’s ambiguous language essentially paves the way for Iran to develop its delivery system for nuclear payloads without violating the nuclear deal and without triggering any international response.

Russia’s Rosatom has already started construction on a two unit nuclear power plant in Iran (Bushear 2) with the option to build six more. If Iran ever does want to build nuclear weapons, they will have little use for old-school heavy water, centrifuges or enriching much uranium when the used fuel rods will have plenty of recoverable plutonium. If Israel tried to destroy the nuclear power plants when they’re in operation, they would contaminate most of central Asia and China because that’s the way the jet stream will carry it. Israel can’t object to Iranian nuclear power plants any more than it can object to them anywhere else on earth.

Nuclear payloads? Israel is far more terrified of Iran being able to launch its own surveillance satellites into orbit (like Israel does now). There is NO difference in rocket technology – pushing several hundred kilograms into a sub-orbital ballistic arc is arguably easier that putting the satellite into a precise orbital path. Iran has a well-documented historical and current interest in launching it’s own satellites. THAT is what Israel fears most. They can spy on everyone else, but nobody else is allowed to spy on them. Crying about restricting or preventing ‘ballistic missile technology’ always implies restricting or preventing satellite launch technology – they overlap about 95% from an engineering standpoint.

There are errors in the article, here are some:
– Houthis aren’t the only force opposing Saudi aggression in Yemen and Iran’s support to them is political and moral, no material support and certainly no missile shipment.
– Yemen is blockaded by land, air and sea and nothing goes through without inspection. The blockaders don’t let the aid pass even after inspection, otherwise there wouldn’t be a Cholera epidemic in Yemen.
– Iran does NOT develop ICBMs.
– Iran grants full access of IAEA inspectors to all nuclear sites. In fact by accepting the additional protocol, the level of control over Iran’s nuclear activities is unprecedented. No other country on earth is under such regime of inspection.
– UNSC resolution 1929 does NOT prohibit Iran of developing ballistic missiles, but only missiles capable of carrying and delivery of nuclear warheads. Link to resolution
– The ruling guideline is the UNSC resolution 2231, which again, does NOT prohibit Iran of developing ballistic missiles, just like 1929.

No. Iran develops ballistic missiles in SRBM and MRBM range. A missile should have a range of minimum 5500 km to be considered ICBM.

To anyone actually observing Iran’s ballistic missile tests, it should be obvious that they are not developing ICBM’s. All of their testing is on medium and short range missiles where the longest range missiles have 1/3rd the range of an ICBM. Their tests are focused on increasing the accuracy or tactical capability, not range of their missiles.
I absolutely hate it when people say this, FOX news parades host after host who makes this false assertion.
They claim that Iran’s space program is a ‘cover’ for ICBM’s but Iran has been focused on launching satellites into orbit at 300 miles which is even less of a range than their current missiles. Tossing satellites into orbit does not help them develop re-entry vehicles.
With Trump now pulling out of middle east and betraying the Kurds, it is “highly likely” that the Saudis and their Arab allies are going to strike against Iranian proxies in the region.
