Saudi-backed Red Sea Coast Offensive Slows Down As Houthis Cut Off Supply Lines Of Saudi-led Forces

Click to see the full-size image

The Houthis have carried out a series of counter-attacks against the Saudi-led coalition and its proxies advancing along the Red Sea coast in the direction of the port city of al-Hudaydah. Yemeni forces have cut off their enemies’ supply line at the Taef-al-Jah-Husseiniya crossroad and forced Saudi-led forces to withdraw from the vicinity of the al-Hudaydah airport.

Pro-Houthi sources already described this as a major success of the Houthis adding that Saudi-led forces had lost about a dozen of vehicles and a high number of fighters in the area. However, in reality, the situation on the ground remains very tense.

Since mid April, Saudi-led forces have advanced along the Red Sea coast and set a foothold for an operation to capture al-Hudaydah. Warplanes of the coalition have been delivering multiple airstrikes on manpower and positions of the Houthis in western Yemen. On July 3, airstrikes hit a meeting of senior military commanders of the Houthis in the coastal city al-Hudaydah. Yemeni sources claimed that Abdul-Khalik al-Houthi, the brother of Houthis leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, was killed in this attack.

The further scenario of the battle for the Red Sea coast will depend on the Houthis’ capabilities of encircling and eliminating a group of the Saudi-led forces deployed north of al-Hudaydah. If this is done, the Saudi-led coalition will suffer a notable defeat. However, if the Yemeni group is not able to do so, the threat to al-Hudaydah will remain and the Houthis’ leadesrhip will find itself in a complicated situation.

The port city of al-Hudaydah is a key logistical hub in western Yemen. It allows the Houthis to receive humanitarian aid for the population in the part of the country controlled by them. Considering a poor humanitarian situation in Yemen, this is a key factor.

Asymmetrical Warfare can be a b****. The British Empire learned this, The Germans, the Soviets, the Americans, the Israelis and now the Saudis.

Freespirit

“Asymmetrical” = GUERRILLA warfare tactics, as used by my Irish Brethren and American Patriots against the British

Yes.

SFC Steven M Barry USA RET

The Irish Rebellion was “won” by politics. AmRev was “won” by conventional operations and main line forces.

Freespirit

YOU do not know what you are talking about

Stay with American politics, if you can even do that

You TROLLS truly are desperate

My family were Rebels in Ireland

Joe Dirt

Don’t tell that trolling bastard to stay with American politics…He is fucking fake

Freespirit

I was being sarcastic, as teh remainder of my comment indicated

Sinbad2

The British were forced into a political solution in Ireland, because the Irish kept killing the British in terrorist attacks. The Irish people owe a lot to people like Michael Collins.

Freespirit

NOT “Terrorist attacks” – GUERILLA warfare attacks

Very different

We were fighting against superior forces, for our OWN land, OCCUPIED, unlawfully, by those British, just as Palestine is by Ashkenazi Jews. Since we were greatly outnumbered and out gunned, only GUERRILLA tactics could win back our land.

We were not the FOREIGN Terrorists.

The British were. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDndoQrqQys

Sinbad2

I meant no offense, the Irish did what any proud people would do to rid their nation of invaders.

Freespirit

I wasn’t taking offense

I just wanted to correct a mistake, which many, especially Americans and British make

For those who know the American “War for Independence” It is IRONIC that the IRA was banned and labelled, in America as a Terrorist group

The Rothschilds Zionist JEWS, were already in control

S Melanson

That is propaganda. Serious historians characterize Washington’s tactics as guerilla style as the continental army was rarely in a position (like at Saratoga) to go head to head with the British. The guerilla campaign had ups and downs and it was the protracted length of the revolution that wore down British resolve. The entry of France under Lafayette and forcing surrender of Cornwallis finally broke British resolve and America was granted independence.

Also, the revolution actually began as a civil war – support for independence was not high at the outbreak of hostilities. However, British brutality in trying to crush the rebelllion along with the tenacity of the rebels over time shifted opinion against Britain.

Freespirit

Well-stated

S Melanson

Correct and not to many are aware that Washington fought a guerrilla war against the British.

Freespirit

It is Common Sense, which too many people are lacking

Keep up the fight

SFC Steven M Barry USA RET

What is this redacted posting thing all about?

SFC Steven M Barry USA RET

Laughter. I was waiting for this very counterattack. You cannot make a deep penetration without expanding the flanks. It’s too bad the Houthis do not have the manpower to eliminate in detail the cauldrons created.

Assad must stay (gr8rambino)

they have quite a number of missiles tho :)))

S Melanson

I would hold off on that assumption. Consider the Arab attacks, under leadership of Lawrence of Arabia, on the extended communication and supply lines linking Ottoman garrisons. This was effective and the Arab forces were very small and poorly equipped relative to Ottomans.

The Houthis planned this out and have executed superbly. Let us see how this plays out.

HardHawk

How you figure they dont have the man power? According to what I know they have more than enough, to do the job.

Freespirit

More GUERRILLA WARFARE tactics against Saudis and their OWNERS – Israel and U.S.

Get them while they sleep

SFC Steven M Barry USA RET

This counterattack on an extended flank is purely conventional operations.

Feudalism Victory

Yes but its nice to see practical military plans executed instead the usual matyrdom allah akbar shooting guns wildly arab military plan.

Freespirit

Nothing conventional about what is happening there

Check my main comment /Rebuttal to him, wherein I expose him

Hisham Saber

The Houthis shout :

Death to America ! Death to Israel ! Curse on the Jews ! Victory to Islam !

Every time they get a hit, or succeed in action. And they also praise Allah all the time.

Feudalism Victory

This is true. Ive watched their promotional videos. Doesnt look like their eager to matyr themselves. This is a sensible approach

DaBoiiiii

Trust me every last one of these guys is willing to martyr themselves.

Freespirit

Now, why would we “trust” you?

Sinbad2

Death to America. Death to Israel. Curse on the Jews. Victory to Islam. Is written on their flag, at least they know who their enemies are.

Joe Dirt

Allah is about to get fucked up by a F-16 fighter jet! :D

DaBoiiiii

It’s always good to have both lol.

The Houthis, the Iranians, Hezbollah and Iraqi millitias are very religious people, and martyrdom is part and parcel with their culture. At the same time it does tend to be practical.

Feudalism Victory

The ballistic rocket attacks also deserve props. Not a guerilla tactic but impressive. The saudis have a tiger by the tail.

Sinbad2

Do you really think saying God is great is any different to saying praise the Lord? Religious people say these kind of things in every country, education is the only antidote.

Freespirit

You discredited yourself, sufficiently, with your other comment to me, so no need for me to expose you further

Joe Dirt

Fuck off troll! And stop posing as a US vet!

SFC Steven M Barry USA RET

It’s not too hard to find out if I’m real. Apparently, except for you; who insists upon being an anonymous nobody.

Joe Dirt

fuck off poser!

SFC Steven M Barry USA RET

That is not an argument.

Joe Dirt

not negotiable, go the fuck away! :D

SFC Steven M Barry USA RET

Or what?

S Melanson

Which worked. Do not the Saudis employ US advisors? And yet this ‘conventional operation’ was allowed to happen, jeopardizing not just the offensive operation, but the very survival of Saudi forces now cut off and unable to resupply.

potcracker2588

just as i said…way to go houthis

Concrete Mike

Excellent job my yemeni brothers. You trapped yourselves some saudi pigs there. Make em pay for their mistakes. And keep the mountains, Its your land you will win.

HardHawk

give them heel and dont let them walk alive, out of there.

S Melanson

Yes, and I am sure that was the plan. And now that theSaudis ran headlong into the trap, the Houthis are going to make good on their plan – let not one escape.

Hansi Hintern

“Saudi-led forces deployed north of al-Hudaydah”

This probably should read “south of al-Hudaydah”.

There may be Saudi troops north of al-Hudaydah, but hey are far away, at the Saudi-Yemenite border.

Garga

This humiliation will certainly drag the US even more into Yemen. There’s a report of US armed forces personnel entering a naval base in Aden. Godspeed Yemenis, you are in our prayers.

Saudi/Emirati genius war planners confirmed they don’t know anything about strategy or tactics as it wasn’t the first time they were dragged into having long, thin supply lines without securing their flanks. Perhaps these idiots think conquering is equal to a ride on roadways.

Saudi way of war reminds me the same exact “strategy” of MEK terrorists on their attack on Iran from Iraq, as soon as Iran-Iraq war reached a ceased fire: They attacked by a single column of armored vehicles, Iranian army/IRGC let them to fully come in and closed the rear and flanks. MEK pawns could save their own lives if they weren’t so indoctrinated to bite on the Cyanide capsule, something which I don’t think Saudis’ mercenaries are even capable of.

Hisham Saber

U.S. military advisors are with the Saudi coalition. Simply put, the Houthi’s are a tenacious , fearsome, warrior people, akin to the other threadbare force giving the U.S. / NATO hell in Afghanistan. Armed with AK-47’s and ATGM and a few IED’s, wearing bed-sheets and beach sandals, they are used to the formidable terrain.

They know no hardship. They are real men. Just like the SAA, Hezbollah. In fact, their are reports of at least 14,000 Afghan volunteers in Syria fighting with the SAA. They are mostly around the Deir Ezzor pocket west of the Euphrates. Also many Chechens from Russia, some working directly for the Russian MoD.

In Iraq, there is the Popular Mobilization forces that are very numerous and answer directly to Khamenei. They are massing along the Syrian – Iraqi border, effectively making the U.S., French, British forces and their Kurdish lackeys encircled in north-east Syria.

Things are not looking up for the Israeli/ U.S. / Saudi axis.

Assad must stay (gr8rambino)

hahaha simply love it :))

Sinbad2

The real difference is motivation. American mercenaries, and most of the American military are mercs, of one type or another fight for money, and money is no use to you when you are dead.

The Houthis and Afghans are different, they are fighting to protect their families and their homes. They have no where else to go, they can die in their homes when the marines kick in the door and slaughter them, or they can die on their feet fighting. Which would you choose?

S Melanson

Yes. They are also showing their skills in fighting an enemy that is better equipped with vastly more resources. The Houthis remind me of the Fremen in the fictional novel ‘Dune’

S Melanson

Good overview. The Houthis are demonstrating also a knack for good strategy and tactics and I would think by now the Saudis have learned their lesson not to underestimate your enemy.

Assad must stay (gr8rambino)

dont give the saudis ideas, we wanna keep them dumb and retarded :))

S Melanson

Good point, although the Saudis also seem to suffer from a learning deficit as they tend to repeat mistakes.

Assad must stay (gr8rambino)

haha yes :))

Sinbad2

They never have been tacticians, that’s why the British sent in military advisers during WWI(Lawrence of Arabia), but they are bloodthirsty, and good cannon fodder. The Saud family are just inbred depraved despots, and will be executed within months of them losing US/UK protection.

S Melanson

As if we needed to be told. There was no need for confirmation – their total incompetence has already been amply demonstrated.

PZIVJ

THIS IS A NICE TURN OF EVENTS. :)

Rafik Chauhan

houthis dint just sit and allowed this saudi slave troop to reach near Port . Hotuhis wanted this saudi to reach i thin line . Great work by Houthis fighters . now they should eliminate and reach mocha port and capture back. Saudi /Uae is doomed

S Melanson

Yes, it was trap and the Saudis in their arrogance fell for it.

Israeli airstrikes have been very perceive recently against the people of Yemen. With Israel unchallenged over the ME and Yemen, then the Saudi Empire backed by Zionist-UK and Israel will continue to expand till it reaches the Russian border. By that time all of Russia’s friends will be dead and conquered subjects turned and forced to fight against the Russians. This is Greater Israels master plan for world domination.

Joe Dirt

stop being such a Nazi

Assad must stay (gr8rambino)

VERY NICE HOUTHIS!!! KEEP MURDERING AND GRINDING THOSE SAUDI BASTARDS INTO DIRT!!! AHAHAHHAHA

Smaug

Classic overstretch. But don’t think that since the Houthis got the last word in that the battle is shifting, the Saudis can resupply and reinforce while the Houthis must have a quick victory. SF speculates that the Houthis may blitz to fight a classic battle of annihilation, but I don’t expect most people to understand why I am certain the Houthis will only launch shallow penetration counterattacks with local forces. The Saudis will slowly capture the entire coast at which point Houthi resistance will collapse.

Joe Dirt

SF overreaction to a paper cut…

S Melanson

You may be right the Houthis will conduct quick attacks and retreat, but I think purposely. The Houthis will use local terrain knowledge and speed to keep attacking the overextended Saudis and retreating before the Saudis can counter. This wil make any further Saudi advance untenable requiring regrouping and shortening the salient to deal with Houthi attacks.

See my response above to John Brown. John correctly saw the parallels to Stalingrad – it was a trap by the Houthis who predicted, correctly, the Saudis would take the bait and rush into the trap. There are also parallels to the tactics of Lawrence of Arabia leading the Arab revolt against the Ottomans by focusing hit and run attacks on the long and vulnerable supply lines that isolated ottoman troop garrisons depended on. The tactics worked and I say watch the show as the Houthis are not done yet.

Smaug

The geography, the politics, and the geopolitics are very different in these two wars. There is no grand scheme to Houthi actions because they lack cohesion. Besides, the idea that Stalingrad was a deliberate trap was Stalin’s Cold War propaganda, taking credit for a strategem that he himself had expressly forbid.

S Melanson

Correct, Stalin took credit but while the Russians had no choice but to fallback to Stalingrad, the decision to hold Stalingrad at ALL COSTS until winter set in was deliberate. This would facilitate the encirclement which was planned by Zhukov based on a similar encirclement of Japanese forces at Khalkin Gol, back when Zhukov commanded the Siberian army.

While the Japanese were poorly equipped compared to German soldgiers, Zhukov was aware that the German 6th Army flanks were held by poorly equipped Rumanian, Italian and Hugarian troops that were spread thinly in open terrain. Zhukov, recognizing the vulnerability of the flanks north and south of Stalingrad, concentrated armoured formations to punch through the flanks to meet to the West of Stalingrad in a double envelopment. The Germans were too arrogant to contemplate at all any Russian counterattack, let alone a double encirclement that trapped the 6th army.

There are parallels. Arrogance and underestimating the enemy. Allowing supply lines and flanks to be extended and vulnerable. An important similarity is the pressing on of an attack despite exposed supply lines and flanks. The Germans pressed on in Stalingrad with breathtaking blindness to the dangers on their flanks and exposed supply lines. Zhukov was counting on German arrogance to blind them to the growing threat – Zhukov was right, and the Germans did not even notice the Russian build up on the flanks as the Germans kept pouring reinforcements into Stalingrad.

And the Germans paid dearly. So will the Saudis.

Jonathan Cohen

DEATH TO KSA!

John Brown

Looks like the Houthis are bating the Saudis into a Stalingrad type trap.

S Melanson

Yes exactly! I pasted below a post I made to another article on the Houthi counterattack. Indeed they baited the arrogant Saudis who took the bait and rushed into the trap.

————————-

My feeling is the Houthis purposely withdrew but gave the impression of being driven back by the Saudi forces. Meanwhile, Houthi forces hid in the mountains east of the line of advance waiting until the Saudis rushed into the trap being overextended and supply lines exposed and vulnerable to counterattack. I thought it suspicious the Saudis were advancing so quickly with weak Houthi resistance. Saudi arrogance once again worked to their advantage and the Saudi forces walked into the trap. The Houthi tactics had the effect of:

(1) giving a false impression the Houthi defences were broken and on the run, (2) the Saudis took the bait and pressed the offensive to keep the retreating Houthi forces off balance, (3) the offensive up the coast created a long and vulnerable salient but the Saudi forces pressed on, (4) with the Saudi forces highly extended on a narrow front and with supply lines particularly vulnerable, the Houthis counter-attacked at key points, cutting the supply line, stopping the Saudi offensive in its tracks.

Watch the Houthis as they are teaching the world a grand lesson in ‘asymetric’ warfare, or as I prefer to say, how to kick Saudi butt.

Jeth Roderet

Go Yemenis, crush the Saudi-barbarian invaders!

MeMadMax

This is what happens when you have no idea what the hell ur doing and don’t protect the flanks.
