On May 8, the pro-Saudi wing of the Yemeni Armed Forces announced that its air defenses had shot down an armed drone that was launched by the Houthis (Ansar Allah) over the northern Yemeni province of Saada.
Commander of the 3rd “Asefah” Brigade, Major General Muhammad al-Ajabi, said that the Houthi drone was detected by reconnaissance units while it was flying over military positions on the mountains of Kalh al-Kirs and al-Madafn in the district of Dhaher. After being detected the drone was quickly shot down by air defense units.
“These breaches constitute a flagrant violation of the UN ceasefire,” Maj. Gen. al-Ajabi said, according to the Saba News Agency.
Under the UN-sponsored ceasefire agreement, which went into effect more than a month ago, the Houthis promised not to launch any attacks inside Yemen or on Saudi Arabia. However, Saudi-backed forces claim that the Houthis violated the ceasefire at least 126 times between May 5 and 6.
The Houthis have been also reporting ceasefire violations by the Saudi-led coalition and its proxies. The group claims that the coalition is not honoring its promise to allow fuel ships to enter al-Hudaydah port and select flights from Sanaa International Airport.
Despite these alleged violations, the ceasefire has been holding up. The only serious incident was on May 4 when the Houthis shot down a combat drone over the northwestern province of Hajjah triggering an airstrike by the Saudi-led coalition.
The UN-sponsored ceasefire is set to end on June 2. However, the UN hopes that a permanent ceasefire agreement will be reached before the end date.
Iran and Russia should learn from democratic countries such as EU, Canada and US. Send weapons to Houthis – in masses for “defence”. Just as they did in Ukraine =) Thank you democracy!
Sending mass amounts of weapons really did work, didn’t it? Neo-Nazis going by their MSM BS claims they are in Moscow now – jk.
Un s dogs. Always after a boner to chew on.
